Toluca was crowned champions of the Clausura MX 2025 after defeating América 2-0 in the second leg of the final. Following a 0-0 draw in the first leg, they dethroned the ‘Águilas,’ who had won three consecutive league titles.
The heroes of the match were Luan García and Alexis Vega, who scored in the second half to secure the ‘Diablos Rojos’ 11th league title. The team celebrated at home, in front of their fans, capping off an outstanding campaign in which they also finished first in the regular season standings.

And the day finally came when América had to surrender its throne. After three consecutive titles and chasing a historic fourth league championship, Toluca stood in their way. Following a 0-0 draw in Mexico City a few days ago, this Sunday, at the Estadio Nemesio Diez and in front of their home fans, the ‘Diablos Rojos’ claimed a 2-0 victory and were crowned champions of the Clausura MX 2025.
Things started going well for Antonio Mohamed’s side even before kickoff—their star striker Paulinho, who had missed the first leg, was back for the decisive match. That alone was already a win.
During the game, América had the first big chance. After a great team move, defender Israel Reyes fired a low shot that struck the post.
There weren’t many other highlights in the first half, aside from a shot by Jesús Gallardo that was easily handled by goalkeeper Luis Malagón.
In the second half, Toluca began pushing through aerial plays, especially from corners and free kicks—and that’s how the first goal came.
In the 65th minute, an Alexis Vega corner found Luan García, who powered home a header for his third goal of the tournament, giving Toluca the lead in the final, and in the 72nd minute, the home side nearly doubled the lead with another Alexis Vega cross, this time to Robert Morales, but the Paraguayan’s header struck the post.
However, Morales would get his revenge just minutes later. After a brilliant solo run, he was taken down in the box by Sebastián Cáceres. The penalty shoot was taken by the captain, Alexis Vega. He made no mistake, slotting it low to one side to seal the 2-0 win in the 82nd minute.
After that, it was just a matter of waiting—letting time run out as the stadium was engulfed in a thick red cloud from the celebrations, barely allowing visibility on the pitch.
For the ‘Diablos Rojos,’ this is their first title in 15 years —the last one came during the Bicentenario Tournament in 2010. Meanwhile, Antonio Mohamed made history by winning the Liga MX title with four clubs: Tijuana, América, Monterrey, and Toluca. It’s the third coach to do this alongside Ignacio Trelles y Víctor Manuel Vucetich.
As for the ‘Águilas,’ their streak of three straight championships came to an end, but they remain the most successful club in Mexican football with 16 titles and 11 runner-up finishes. Their rivals, Chivas, have 12 championships.
On the individual side, Paulinho finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 14 goals, while Alexis Vega was second with 13. Vega ended as the tournament’s top assist provider with 11, and Marcel Ruíz was second with eight.
