The 2025/26 Premier League season concluded its fourth matchday, leaving a landscape full of intensity in both the fight for the title and the battle to avoid relegation. The teams at the top of the table are engaged in an exciting action for European places, while at the bottom of the table, the pressure to escape the relegation zone still remains. Every point is becoming increasingly valuable in a season that promises to be full of excitement.

Liverpool continues to set the pace of the competition, not only as the tournament leader, but also as the favorite to win the title thanks to its offensive strength and consistent results. Behind the Reds are other teams fighting to secure their place in next season’s Champions League, with Chelsea currently occupying a Europa League spot and teams such as West Ham, Aston Villa, and Wolves clinging on to the fight for the Conference League.

Collective statistics are also beginning to reveal interesting trends. Liverpool is confirmed as the highest-scoring team in the championship, while West Ham appears at the opposite end of the spectrum as the most vulnerable defense. In contrast, Tottenham boasts the strongest defense in the league, having conceded the fewest goals in these early rounds, a factor that keeps them fully competitive in the fight for the top spots.

Premier League Matchday 4 Roundup: Arsenal x Nottingham Forest

Arsenal kicked off the fourth matchday of the Premier League with a convincing performance, beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

The victory was marked by the brilliant performances of new signings Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, and Viktor Gyökeres, who were directly involved in all three goals of the match. With 67% possession and constant pressure from the start, Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the game, although the goal did not come until the 32nd minute, when Zubimendi surprised everyone with a long-range shot after a corner kick to open the scoring.

The start of the second half was even more favorable for the Gunners. Just six minutes in, Eberechi Eze threaded a precise pass into the box for Viktor Gyökeres, who was in the right place at the right time to extend the lead with his third goal of the season.

Forest couldn’t find an answer despite Ange Postecoglou’s adjustments and lost ground to an Arsenal side that was playing comfortably. The final nail in the coffin came in the 79th minute, again with Zubimendi as the protagonist, this time with a header from a measured cross by Leandro Trossard, completing his brace and sealing the victory.

However, the day was not entirely positive for the Londoners. Just ten minutes into the game, captain Martin Ødegaard had to leave the field with a shoulder injury, causing concern among the coaching staff and fans.

After the match, Arteta highlighted the work of his new signings and the effectiveness of the game plan, although he acknowledged that the priority now will be to assess the extent of the Norwegian midfielder’s injury.

Result: Arsenal 3–0 Nottingham Forest

Premier League Matchday 4 Roundup: Manchester City x Manchester United

The Manchester derby was once again painted sky blue with a clear 3-0 victory for Manchester City over United at the Etihad Stadium.

With Phil Foden rediscovering his scoring touch, Erling Haaland in devastating form, and Jeremy Doku electric on the wings, Pep Guardiola’s side reaffirmed their recent historical dominance in these derbies. United, who were ahead in the table for the first time in years, looked timid and unable to compete with the intensity and confidence of their neighbors, who imposed their conditions from the opening minutes.

The scoring opened in the 18th minute thanks to an individual effort from Doku, who easily beat Luke Shaw and assisted Foden, who repaid his coach’s confidence with a much-celebrated header. After a slow start, United showed little threat at the beginning of the second half, although they were unable to really trouble the home defense.

That was when City stepped up a gear and, after a superb combination between O’Reilly, Foden, and Doku, Haaland appeared to score the second goal of the afternoon and seal the victory.

With the match practically decided, the icing on the cake came in the final minutes. A mistake in United’s clearance allowed Bernardo Silva to assist Haaland, who ran unopposed across half the pitch to score his second goal and seal the derby.

The Norwegian has now scored five goals at the start of the season and comfortably leads the race for the Golden Boot. While City regains confidence after two consecutive defeats and moves up to six points, United remains stuck with only four out of a possible twelve, occupying the lower part of the table.

Result: Manchester City 3–0 Manchester United

Premier League Matchday 4 Roundup: Brentford x Chelsea

Chelsea came very close to securing victory in their visit to the Gtech Community Stadium, but a goal from Fabio Carvalho in added time rescued a 2-2 draw for Brentford.

The Blues had come back with goals from Cole Palmer and Moisés Caicedo in the second half, after Kevin Schade had put the hosts ahead in the 29th minute. The draw leaves a bittersweet taste for Enzo Maresca’s side, who paid dearly for their defensive errors in an intense match that went down to the wire.

The coach surprised everyone with his starting lineup, opting for young Jorrel Hato and Wesley Fofana in place of Reece James and Marc Cucurella. That decision left Chelsea lacking offensive depth for much of the first half, with just one shot on goal in the 43rd minute.

In addition, the London defense showed weaknesses, especially on Schade’s goal, where Chalobah lost possession in the opponent’s half, and a quick transition by the Bees left Robert Sánchez with no options in goal.

The changes at halftime breathed new life into the Blues, who found in Palmer the spark they needed to equalize in the 56th minute. Shortly after, Caicedo took charge of turning the score around with a powerful shot from the edge of the box that seemed to seal the match.

However, just when it looked like the visitors were heading for victory, a throw-in into the box ended up at the feet of Carvalho, who scored the equalizer and dashed Chelsea’s hopes of picking up three crucial points.

Result: Brentford 2–2 Chelsea

Premier League Matchday 4 Roundup: Burnley vs. Liverpool

Liverpool secured a dramatic victory against Burnley thanks to a penalty in the 93rd minute, coolly converted by Mohamed Salah after a clear handball by Hannibal Mejbri inside the area. With this win, Arne Slot’s side maintains their perfect start to the Premier League season, with four wins in four games and remaining sole leaders with twelve points.

Burnley, who sat back in their own half for the entire match, saw their resistance crumble in the last play of the game.

The match was marked by Liverpool’s persistence, with 27 shots on goal, but they were met with a tight defense and an inspired Dubravka in goal.

Frustration grew at Anfield, especially after Milos Kerkez’s injury and Alexis Mac Allister’s worrying ankle sprain, which forced him to leave the field at halftime and put his presence in the Champions League match against Atlético Madrid in doubt. To make matters worse, Ugochukwu, who had injured the Argentine in the first half, was sent off in the final moments for a second yellow card.

Just when it looked like Burnley were going to scrape a draw by defending with practically the entire team inside their area, a desperate cross from Jeremie Frimpong ended up in Hannibal’s hand.

The action did not require VAR review, and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Salah made no mistake and sealed a 1-0 victory, keeping Liverpool at the top of the table and leaving Burnley with just three points from four games.

Result: Burnley 0–1 Liverpool
