The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4:00 PM ET, right after Week 9.

Marvin Harrison Jr. was the first name on every trade-candidate list two weeks ago. He is now a Houston Texan and is making his debut on Sunday in London. J.J. McCarthy has been traded from Minnesota to the Giants. Jonathan Greenard has gone from Minnesota to Philadelphia. Joey Porter Jr. is a Cowboy.

This deadline has already started, and the five weeks of NFL football since those deals have sorted the league into three groups: contenders with one obvious hole, winless teams with assets worth more to somebody else, and a handful of clubs that do not know yet which they are.

The Buyers with a Named Problem

Kansas City Chiefs: 4-0, +41. They need a pass rusher, and the number is embarrassing.

The Chiefs have not recorded a sack since Week 1. Four wins, a +41 differential, and a pass rush that has produced nothing for a month. Tyquan Thornton has a dislocated ankle and Rashee Rice a hamstring, so there is a receiver case too, but the sack total is the one that decides playoff games.

ESPN’s prediction is that Kansas City will make “an unexciting trade,” on the grounds that they reliably add at the deadline, and it is usually a Kadarius Toney rather than a Brian Thomas Jr. On this evidence, they should break the habit. A 4-0 team with no sacks in four games has a structural problem, not a depth problem.

San Francisco 49ers: 5-0, +61. The best team in football is also the most injured.

Nick Bosa is out with a calf injury. Ricky Pearsall is gone for the season. Rookie De’Zhaun Stribling is out for ten weeks. San Francisco has the best record and the best point differential in the league, and they are doing it with a depleted receiver room and without their best defensive lineman.

They are also one of the three teams ESPN names looking for a difference-maker at wide receiver, alongside the Chiefs and Raiders. They are now Super Bowl favorites, having passed the Rams. A team at 5-0 with a shortening window of health is exactly the profile that should spend picks.

Baltimore Ravens: 4-1, +27. The offensive line is held together with replacements.

Ethan Pocic and Jovaughn Gwyn are both injured reserve. Centre Cam Jurgens is questionable. Baltimore are down to their fourth-choice center and third-string right guard. Durham Smythe is on IR with an Achilles injury.

And Lamar Jackson is questionable with a sprained left ankle after missing the Atlanta win entirely. Tyler Huntley won that game, which is a credit to him and not a plan.

A 4-1 team on a three-game winning streak whose quarterback is playing behind a patched line should be buying interior offensive line help, and it is the least glamorous need on this page.

Minnesota Vikings: 5-0, +45. They have already been the most active team in the league, and they still cannot score.

Minnesota dealt J.J. McCarthy to the Giants e Jonathan Greenard to the Eagles inside the same window. The defense ranks first in the NFL in expected points added, and the special teams rank second. Will Reichard is 12 for 12 on field goals.

The offence scored one touchdown between Week 1 and Week 4. It produced 23 points at New Orleans in Week 5, which is progress rather than proof. 109 points in five games is 21.8 a game, and no defense carries that into January.

The Sellers with Assets

Los Angeles Chargers: 0-5, -45. Khalil Mack is the most obviously available good player in the league.

Justin Herbert is not available; reporting describes the idea as a non-starter. Mack is a different matter entirely, and the contract structure is why.

He signed for one year and $18 million, but $10 million of that was a signing bonus already paid. An acquiring team would owe only whatever remains of his $8 million salary at the time of the trade. That is a Pro Bowl edge rusher at a prorated fraction of eight million dollars, on a team that is 0-5 with an offensive line that has not held up once.

Kansas City has had no sacks since Week 1. Chicago needs a pass rusher. The arithmetic writes itself.

Tennessee Titans: 0-5, -51. Two useful veterans and 58 points scored in five games.

Tony Pollard is 29, in the final year of a $6.74 million contract, and has rushed for 173 yards at 4.6 per carry on the worst offence in football. Tennessee still has Tyjae Spears and drafted Nicholas Singleton in the fifth round. Running back is the position with the highest in-season attrition in the sport, and Pollard is the exact player a contender calls in late October.

Calvin Ridley is the other name reported as available as the Titans look to reduce payroll.

Miami Dolphins: 0-5, -62. The worst differential in football and a rebuild already under way.

Josh Uche signed a one-year minimum deal and is playing well for a team in the first year of a significant teardown. Converting a minimum contract into a draft pick is the easiest decision any front office will make this autumn.

Miami scored 70 points in five games and lost De’Von Achane for the season. There is nothing here to protect.

Arizona Cardinals: 1-4, -54. They already traded their best receiver. Josh Sweat should go as well.

Sweat has two years left on his deal with none of the money beyond this season guaranteed, spent a chunk of the offseason in a contract dispute, and at one point reportedly requested a trade. He is a Super Bowl champion, not yet 30, and has 12 sacks last season against none so far in 2026.

A 1-4 team with the second-worst differential in the league, holding an unhappy veteran on non-guaranteed money, has one sensible move. Harrison has already gone to Houston. Sweat is the obvious next target.

The Three Teams That Do Not Know What They Are

Philadelphia Eagles: 2-3, -20, three straight defeats, and their quarterback has a blood clot.

Jalen Hurts is out for Week 6 with a superficial blood clot in his calf. The clot moved on a follow-up ultrasound; treatment is still being decided, and there is no timeline beyond Sunday. Tanner McKee is expected to start until the situation is resolved.

Two weeks ago, ESPN listed Philadelphia among the five teams most likely to be adding on the reasonable grounds that Howie Roseman is the most active general manager in football. That assessment was made when the Eagles were 2-1.

They are now 2-3 with a -20 differential, have been outscored 31-0 in the second half of two games, went 0-for-12 on third down against the Rams, and have lost three in a row. They also already spent their 2027 third-round pick on Greenard.

The deadline falls on 10 November, which gives Philadelphia four more games to learn whether Hurts is coming back. That timing is either a gift or a trap. Our read: they should hold. A team with a quarterback of uncertain availability and diminishing draft capital should not be spending it on a season that may already be gone.

Cleveland Browns: 3-2, -19. Winning games they are being outscored in, with a receiver nobody is using.

Cleveland is third in the AFC North on a negative point differential. They have not scored more than 27 points in any game and managed 12 at the Jets.

Jerry Jeudy is 27, signed up in 2027, and has two catches for 26 yards all season. He is owed roughly $23 million in 2027, none of it guaranteed, and the Browns’ receiver corps has been handed to rookies.

This is the cleanest sell on the board that nobody is talking about. Jeudy cracked 1,200 yards in 2024. A 3-2 record built on a -19 differential is not a contending season worth protecting assets for.

Green Bay Packers: 3-2, -8. Two straight wins and the fourth-worst differential in the league.

They just put 31 points on Chicago with Jordan Love throwing for 367 yards, which makes them look like a different team from the one carrying a -32 differential two weeks ago.

The honest profile is still a team with massive injury problems, particularly on the offensive line, and a cornerback in Keisean Nixon (29, final year, $4.3 million salary prorated) who is exactly the kind of player a 3-2 team trades if it decides the window, is next year.

Green Bay’s next three results decide this one, and they have the least settled identity of any team with a winning record.

What the Market Already Tells You

Five teams were named likely buyers two weeks ago: Chicago, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Detroit and the Rams. The five weeks since have changed three of those assessments.

Chicago still fits needs at defensive back and pass rusher, and a 3-2 record with a +23 differential despite starting three different quarterbacks. They are also the team with the most to gain from Khalil Mack’s contract structure.

Las Vegas is 3-2 with a +31 differential and a rookie in Fernando Mendoza waiting behind Kirk Cousins. Maxx Crosby is not moving he was traded to the Ravens for two first-round picks in March, and Baltimore backed out over the physical, which tells you both the asking price and the risk. Vegas should add a receiver, not subtract an edge rusher.

The Rams are the squeeze. Apenas four picks in next year’s draft, and no 2028 second rounder after the Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie trades, a 2-3 record, a -1 differential, and a left tackle just suspended two games for a punch. The most win-now team of the offseason has the least ammunition left and the most immediate need.

And Detroit are 3-2 with real problems on the back end of their defense and a title window they may already be closing. They enter the bye having beaten Arizona 45-21.

O veredicto

Four teams should be buying aggressively, and all four have a single named hole rather than a general shortage. Kansas City needs a sack. San Francisco needs a receiver and a defensive lineman. Baltimore needs an interior offensive lineman. Minnesota needs anyone who can score.

Four teams should be selling, and three of them are winless. The Chargers have the most valuable asset on the market in Mack and the structure to move him cheaply. Tennessee, Miami, and Arizona have nothing left to protect.

And the most interesting situation in the league is in Philadelphia, where a blood clot has turned a buyer into a question. The deadline is November 10. The Eagles have four games to find out which side of it they belong on.
