On Thursday night, the Mexican Olympic team arrived in Tokyo to settle in Japan and prepare for its debut in the Olympic Games, which will take place on July 22. El Tri U-23, led by Guillermo Ochoa, one of the senior reinforcements, arrived at Narita International Airport on Friday morning in Japan and after their arrival will move to Hiroshima to begin their training camp.

Jaime Lozano, his coaching staff, and his pupils left Mexico at 2:00 a.m. today, as informed by the Mexican Olympic Committee, and they are the second group of Mexican athletes who are already preparing for the Olimpíadas. The women’s softball team, Kenia Lechuga and Melissa Rodriguez arrived yesterday. Mexico will begin its participation against France, a team that will include André-Pierre Gignac. On July 25 they will face the local team and on July 28 they will close the group stage against South Africa.

As there was no reduction in the number of players as had been announced, the 22 players that Jaime Lozano had budgeted for from the beginning will be able to travel.

Although Jaime Lozano, technical director of the Mexican U-23 national team has not released the names of the players who will travel to Tokyo to compete in the Olympic Games, the Mexican Olympic Committee went ahead and presented a list of 22 players made up of 18 players and four substitutes, who will try to repeat the gold medal won in London 2012. As previously announced, the three over-age players who will participate with the under-23s will be Henry Martín and Guillermo Ochoa from América, as well as Luis Romo, champion of the 2021 Guard1anes with Cruz Azul.

How was the preparation of the Mexican team for these Olympic Games in Tokyo?

Before traveling to the Asian continent, Jimmy Lozano’s team had a good test after training at the Mexico City High-Performance Center against Panama in Nashville, where El Tri won with authority by a comfortable score of 3-0 with goals by Diego Laínez, César Montes and Henry Martín. In addition, the Mexican U-23 National Team also played its last preparation match against Australia in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as part of the tour of Europe, where the players had their last chances to convince Jaime Lozano to be part of the privileged final roster.
