Um dos temores dos canadenses era a presença de seu craque, Alphonso Davies. O jogador do Bayern München lesionou-se há algumas semanas e era desconhecido, mas há alguns dias o seu clube anunciou que não era grave e este domingo apareceu na lista. Além de Davies, o time do Maple Leaf conta com jogadores que tiveram boas atuações na Europa, como o atacante Jonathan David (Lille), o meio-campista Stephen Eustáquio (Porto), o goleiro Milan Borjan (Crvena Zvezda), e outros de grandes momentos na MLS. , onde a maioria joga.

Para muitos, Marrocos é uma equipa fraca, mas a verdade é que tem jogadores muito bons em cada linha como os goleiros Yassine Bono (Sevilla), Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint Germain) e Nayef Aguerd (West Ham) na defesa, Sofyan Amrabat (Fiorentina) no meio-campo e Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea) ou Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla) no ataque. No entanto, eles não são os únicos. 

A seleção africana repete a Copa do Mundo depois de estar na Rússia em 2018, mas o faz em meio a polêmica, após a demissão do técnico Vahid Halilhodzic há 3 meses. O bósnio teve um regime bastante rígido e também não convocou Ziyech nem Noussair Mazraoui (Bayern München), o que acabou por ser decisivo. 

Walid Regragui chegou após boa campanha no Wydad local e só conseguiu dois amistosos: vitória por 2 a 0 sobre o Chile e empate sem gols com o Paraguai.
