The 2025 Hungarian GP brings high drama to one of Formula 1’s most technical circuits on the race calendar, where precision beats power and strategy is king.
The 40th edition of the Hungarian GP falls from Friday, August 1 to Sunday, August 3, delivering a classic pre-summer break showdown at the Hungaroring, one of the season’s toughest overtaking circuits.
Oscar Piastri, last year’s race winner and current championship leader, heads to Budapest with six wins in the opening 13 rounds, holding a 16-point lead over teammate Lando Norris. McLaren remains dominant in both driver and constructor standings, far ahead of Ferrari and Mercedes. With McLaren’s unrivaled pace this season, all eyes are on Budapest as a potential next chapter in their success story, and possibly another intra-team showdown.

Hungarian GP Circuit Details
The Hungaroring, located just outside Budapest, is a 4.381 km permanent circuit hosting a total of 70 laps. Known as “Monaco without the wall”, its narrow, twisty layout with few straights makes overtaking especially challenging, placing a premium on qualifying position and race strategy.
Recent updates include resurfacing of the grid, pit lane, main straight, and new paddock facilities—completed in time to smooth out bumps and reduce variability in track conditions from last year’s race.
Pirelli has brought the C3 (hard), C4 (medium), and C5 (soft) compounds to the Hungaroring. One step softer than the Belgian allocation, while the newly introduced C6 remains unused here as it’s too extreme for this high-demand circuit.
Thermal degradation will be a major factor. Last year’s event recorded the season’s highest track temperature (58.6 °C).
Expect hot and mostly sunny weather throughout the weekend, with peak highs around 30 °C on Friday and Saturday, cooling slightly to the mid-20s °C on race day.
Hungarian GP Betting Picks
Returning to the site of his first F1 victory in 2024, Oscar Piastri enters Fórmula 1 Round 14 leading the standings with six wins from 13 races—the most any Australian has scored in a single season. His consistency and qualifying pace make him a strong favourite on this twisty circuit, where track position is key.
Coming into Hungary just 16 points behind Piastri, Lando Norris has captured four wins this season and recently took pole position in Belgium. Avoiding team orders this time, he’ll be looking to take outright control in Budapest, particularly in qualifying, which will likely be decisive.
Despite a tough start to life at Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton remains the most successful driver at the Hungarian GP, with eight wins and nine poles at the circuit. A recent upgrade package in Belgium may give Ferrari the performance boost it needs in Hungary’s low-speed corners.
Lastly, we can’t let the current Driver’s Champion out of the picks. Set to mark his 200th race start for Red Bull, Max Verstappen has two past wins at Hungary (2022, 2023) and remains McLaren’s closest rival in terms of raw pace, despite being 81 points off the lead. He’ll be looking to disrupt the McLaren one-two and remind everyone he’s still in contention.
