After Justin Rose’s impressive victory at the St. Jude Championship, we now move on to the second event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the BMW Championship, which will be played from August 14 to 17.
This tournament will take place at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland, a par-70 course measuring 7,366 yards. The field will feature the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings, after 20 were eliminated last weekend in Tennessee.
Last year’s winner was Keegan Bradley, who claimed the title for the second time, edging Ludvig Åberg, Sam Burns, and Adam Scott by a single stroke. Tiger Woods and Walter Hagen, each with five victories, are the most successful players in the history of this event.

2025 BMW Top Contenders
Scottie Scheffler continues to be the favorite in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He started on the right foot but came up just short, finishing third at the St. Jude Championship, one shot behind Justin Rose and J.J. Spaun.
It’s been a very good year for him, although not quite as dominant as in 2024. He has won four titles, two of which were Majors, leaving only the U.S. Open to complete the career Grand Slam. On top of that, he has recorded 12 consecutive Top 10 finishes and 14 in 17 tournaments this season.
Last year was not as strong, as he finished 33rd in this tournament. However, he was runner-up in 2023 and third in 2022, so he is close to completing the podium at this event.
One player who did not compete in Tennessee but will be in Maryland is Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman earned enough points during the season to comfortably skip the first tournament and remain among the top 50 in the standings to qualify for the second event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
McIlroy has three titles in 2025, including the Masters at Augusta, which allowed him to complete the career Grand Slam.He comes into this event with three consecutive Top 10 finishes, the latest being seventh place at The Open. He has played the BMW Championship 14 times, finishing in the Top 10 in half of them, and won the title in 2012.
Also in this group of contenders is Keegan Bradley. He won this tournament in 2018 and 2024, and in 2025 claimed his eighth PGA Tour title at the Travelers Championship in late June. He has four other Top 10 finishes this year, including eighth at the PGA Championship. However, he placed 44th at the St. Jude Championship, meaning his last four tournaments have not gone as well.
2025 BMW Championship Outside picks
How many times have we talked about Tommy Fleetwood and how well he’s been playing, yet he still hasn’t been able to secure his first PGA Tour title? In the last tournament, he was close once again. After a couple of strong opening rounds, he carded a 69 on Saturday and another 69 on Sunday, finishing just one stroke behind Rose and Spaun. It was his sixth Top 10 of the year.
One player who hasn’t had a great 2025 but still deserves attention is Xander Schauffele. After winning two Majors in 2024, The American hasn’t replicated that form this season, recording only three Top 10 finishes, two of them in Majors. He’s coming off a 22nd-place finish at the St. Jude, but he does have three consecutive Top 10s in this event.
For the third spot, we’ll include J. J. Spaun. This year, he lost in the playoffs at both the St. Jude Championship and THE PLAYERS to McIlroy, but he also managed to capture the U.S. Open title—the second victory of his career and his first since the 2022 Valero Texas Open. The American golfer has enjoyed a strong 2025, adding another runner-up finish and two more Top 10s.
