Last Updated on April 24, 2023 4:40 pm by Erwin Noguera

The PGA Tour will make its first stop in Mexico this 2023 season when the Mexico Open will occur. This wonderful event that attracts the best golfers in the world will again be at Vidanta Vallarta, from the designer Greg Norman. In addition, one of the main factors of the tournament is that it will have the visit of the #1 in the world and current champion of this tournament, Jon Rahm.

On the other hand, the Mexico Open at Vidanta will take place from April 27 to 30, 2023, and, as we mentioned before, the best golfers in the world will meet to dethrone John Rahm, who is once again the betting favorite with odds of +300.

Vidanta Vallarta

Before the event was held for the first time in 2022 at Vidanta, there was little information regarding the course. However, we now have much more information about it.

It is a long course of approximately 7500 yards. In addition, it is worth mentioning that it is located in Puerto Vallarta, a coastal city in Mexico, so it is at sea level. Therefore, all golfers who are used to playing courses in Puerto Rico, Punta Cana, and even Mayakoba may have some advantage in this tournament.

On the other hand, an extremely slow and sticky “Paspalum” grass is expected in many parts of the course. Because Puerto Vallarta is a coastal city, it is very common to have strong gusts of wind coming from the Pacific Ocean.

A brief history of the Mexico Open at Vidanta

The Mexico Open at Vidanta was added to the PGA Tour calendar in 2022 when the body overseeing the professional golf scene worldwide decided to replace the WGC Mexico.

The first and only winner of the tournament so far is the Spaniard Jon Rahm, who was the betting favorite in 2022 (+350) and fulfilled the expectations. Now, he is also the favorite for this 2023 edition, but this time he will have to face Tony Finau, another of the best golfers in the world today.

Undoubtedly, seeing Rahm’s performance in this tournament will be extremely exciting and interesting. He started the season at full speed and aimed to lift the trophy in Mexico for the second consecutive year.

Betting favorites

As mentioned, the Spaniard is the main favorite to win the tournament. There are currently many debates about it, and the main topic is not whether he will win the Mexico Open at Vidanta or not, but by how many strokes he will win it. However, Tony Finau arrives with the mission to give a blow on the table and surprise us all. In addition, we must remember that Finau is the only player within the top 50 that the Spaniard will face in the tournament.

The Mexico Open at Vidanta 2023 promises to be an unforgettable event for golfers and spectators alike. With a world-class course, first-class amenities, and beautiful natural surroundings on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, this tournament will surely be one of the highlights of the golfing calendar.

The followings are the favorite golfers to win and their respective betting odds.

  • Jon Rahm +300
  •  Tony Finau +870
  •  Clark Wyndham +2100
  •  Gary Woodland +2600
  •  Nicolai Hojgaard +2900
  •  Patrick Rodgers +3200
  •  Byeong-hun An +3500
  •  Maverick McNealy +3500

Being the #1 in the world ranking, Jon Rahm has everything in his favor to take the victory in this tournament. After a well-deserved week off, the Spaniard should be fully ready to repeat his victory in the tournament.

Clark Wyndham finished in the TOP 5 last week in Zurich and has a style of play that could be dominant in Vidanta. Finau, meanwhile, has yet to make a top-five in a tournament this 2023. However, he is one of the top contenders for this event.

Hojgaard has a length style of play that can serve him well in Vidanta. Also, it is worth noting that he placed second in Corales.
