The Latin American representation will be led by the Chilean Joaquín Niemann. The number 28 in the world has just finished in eighth position at the LIV Golf Tulsa and hopes to improve the 23rd position of last year and get into the top 10 of a Major for the first time in his career. He had a very good performance in this year’s Masters Tournament, finishing with a total of 286 shots, 2 under par, and in 16th position.

His compatriot, Mito Pereira, number 56 in the world, surprised last year by winning the third round and finishing third in the PGA Championship with a -4 cardHe was just 1 stroke behind Justin Thomas, champion, and Will Zalatoris. Pereira was also in Tulsa last week but did not have a good performance, finishing in 31st place. In the 2023 Masters, he did not do very well and had a card of 294 with 6 over par. This means that he remained in the 43rd position.

Mexico

The Mexican Abraham Ancer also had a great PGA Championship 2022, finishing in ninth place with 1 under par and remaining in the Top 10 for the second consecutive year, after being eighth in 2021. A couple of months ago he won the Saudi International (LIV Golf) with a card of -19, beating Cameron Young. He’s already been to the Masters this year, but finished 39th at +5.

Argentina

Back in South America, the Argentine Emiliano Grillo, whose best performance in this contest was in 2016 when he finished 13th, has not had a good 2023. Last week he finished 23rd in the Wells Fargo Championship that was held in Charlotte, Carolina del Norte. He ended up with a card of 279 strokes, 5 under par.

Colombia

Finally, the Colombian Nicolás Echavarría earned his entry to the PGA Championship in his rookie season on the PGA Tour after being crowned champion of the Puerto Rico Open in March of this year with a card of 267, -21, equaling Chesson Hadley’s record in 2014. It will be the first Major that the 28-year-old golfer plays and the third Colombian to be in the PGA Championship after Juan Sebastián Muñoz and Camilo Villegas, the latter being fourth in 2008. Despite the title, Echavarría has not been well in recent months and has only made the cut in 2 of the last 5 tournaments.
