The first big favorite could not be other than the South Korean Tom Kim, who is the defending champion in Las Vegas.

After recovering from a sprained ankle, Kim returned to the FedExCup Playoffs, finishing in the top 25 in each of his three appearances.

Now rested and fully recovered, the South Korean will be looking to repeat or improve on what he did a year ago when he finished at 24 under par, a record score at TPC Summerlin. American Patrick Cantlay, one of the best in the world, was the victim of a spectacular day for the 21-year-old Asian, who has been a professional since 2018.

Tom Kim has yet to win a title this year, but in 2022 he not only won the trophy in Las Vegas but also the Wyndham Championship. His best result this year in a major came this year when he finished second in The Open Championship.

From South Korea comes another candidate to triumph on U.S. soil, Si Woo Kim, who is 28 years old and has been a professional since 2012.

He won the Wyndham Championship, The Players Championship, The American Express, and the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2023, when he beat American Hayden Buckley. Throughout his career, on 16 occasions he has finished in the top 5 of the competitions he has played.

Then there is the 35-year-old Canadian veteran Nick Taylor, who has three titles as a professional. One of them this year: the RBC Canadian Open.

With 17 under par, Taylor beat Fleetwood at home and ended a streak of three without being champion, since he had won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2020. The Canadian has two subtitles and has been top 10 on 18 occasions.

We must also talk about Adam Schenk, a professional since 2015 and who this year lost the playoff for the Charles Schwab Challenge title to Argentine Emiliano Grillo.

Schenk knows the Shriners Children’s Open very well, as in 2021 he was close to winning it. However, on the last day, he had a bad performance and finished in third place, with 19 under par.

Underdog picks

Speaking of Emilian Grillo. The Argentinean is a golfer with a chance to win the championship in the Las Vegas field. He is having a great 2023.

This season he finished sixth in The Open Championship and won the Charles Schwab Challenge. In this way, he cut a streak of eight years without being champion. The 31-year-old Latino has six runner-up finishes, 12 podiums in total, 15 top 5s, and 31 top 10 finishes.

Finally, we must talk about the Swede Ludvig Aberg, who is only 23 years old and is one of the most important young players on the circuit. This year he won the Omega European Masters, beating his compatriot Alexander Björk.

He just finished in second place at the Sanderson Farms Championship, losing in the playoff to American Luke List.

The money to be awarded by the tournament in Las Vegas is $8.4 million, of which $1.5 million will go to the champion. In addition, there are 500 points in play for the FedExCup ranking.
