Ranked 40th in the world ranking of the sport is Chilean Joaquín Niemann, who turned professional in 2018 and at the age of 24 has already been three times on the grass of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, but without achieving an outstanding participation so far.

Chilean Niemann is one of the most important exponents in this sport for South America, winning 2019 the Greenbrier Classic Tournament, being the third non-American to achieve a PGA tournament under 21 years old, after Spain’s Severiano Ballesteros and Northern Ireland’s Rory Mcllroy. In addition, in 2022 he lifted the Genesis Invitational, carding a 265, 19 under par, over Cameron Young and Collin Morikawa. This was before moving on to LIV Golf in 2022.

After the Chilean competitor we must highlight the Argentine Emiliano Grillo, 30 years old, who has two victories in the PGA Tour, getting the Frys.com Open in 2015 and the Charles Schwab Challenge in May this year, beating Adam Schenk in a tight finish.

There are six participations of the Argentine in The Open, being a professional since 2011. It is worth mentioning that twice he has finished in the top 25 of the British competition. He has also finished in the top 25 twice in the PGA Championship and once in the Masters’ Tournament, which accredits him as an experienced golfer for this type of high-caliber competition.

Now we must talk about the Mexican Abraham Ancer, a professional since 2013, 65th in the world, and who will participate for the fifth time in The Open when he is already 32 years old.

The best victory of his career came on August 8 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, when he finished with a card of 264, 16 under par, beating American Sam Burns and Japanese Hideki Matsuyama. He also won the Emirates Australian Open and the Nova Scotia Open. In addition, he was runner-up in the Nashville Golf Open 2017, losing to Lanto Griffin.

The Mexican has had great participation in Majors, finishing in the top 10 of the PGA Championship twice and three times in the top 25. He also finished in the top 25 once in the Masters’ Tournament and The Open Championship, achieving it in 2022.

Finally, there is the youngest of all, Argentine Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira, who has been the South American Pre-Junior champion, bronze at the 2017 South American Youth Games, and 11th at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. For him, this will be his first participation in The Open Championship and he achieved his quota after winning the Latin America Amateur Championship in January this year.

In this title, he had a total of 265 strokes, 23 under par, while his pursuer, Mexican Luis Carrera, was with -19. Lifting this trophy also allowed him to compete in the Masters and the US Open.
