Boxing Profile – Gabriel Flores Jr., an up-and-coming prospect.

Flores vs. Conway

Matt Conway made Gabriel Flores Jr. work for his win on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury undercard on 02, 22, 2020.

Conway constantly came forward, took Flores’ hardest shots well when the unbeaten prospect let his hands go, and made their eight-round lightweight bout competitive at times.

Flores still convincingly won by a unanimous decision, as judges Tim Cheatham (79-72), Eric Cheek (80-71), and Chris Flores (80-71) all scored their fight for him by big margins.

Flores vs. Ruiz

Gabriel Flores Jr. (18-0) dominated every second of every round to score a unanimous decision victory over Jose Ruiz (21-3-3) in the main event of Top Rank’s card from the MGM Grand Conference Center Grand Ballroom in Las Vegas on the 06, 18, 2020.

Flores was boosted to the main event after the original headliner between Jose Pedraza and Mikkel LesPierre was canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test in LesPierre’s camp.

Flores started off fast, using his superb hand speed and boxing ability to keep Cruz from finding any rhythm.

It was obvious that there was a severe discrepancy in talent as Flores was never in trouble throughout the 10-round affair.

Flores vs. Kielczwesky

At the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas on 10, 03, 2020, Gabriel Flores Jr. had a wake-up call in the first round, when a left hook from Ryan Kielczweski stunned him for a brief moment.

Flores regrouped from that hiccup and boxed circles around Kielczweski en route to a 10-round unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91, and 98-92) in the lightweight co-feature.

Flores vs. Velez

Gabriel faced the former title challenger Jayson Velez on the Valdez vs. Berchelt card on 02, 20, 2021.

The young American underdog knocked out the former featherweight title challenger in the sixth round.

While he was given points for the first knockdown, the later knockdown made him the winner

Flores vs. Lopez

Heavily-pushed Top Rank junior lightweight prospect Gabriel Flores Jr took a beating on the 09, 10, 2021. Then he lost a clear and wide 10-round decision to underdog Luis Alberto Lopez in the Valdez-Conceicao co-feature in Arizona.

Scores here were 98-92, 100-90, and 100-90 for Venado Lopez, who dominated the fight and barely seemed to break a sweat, battering Flores (20-1, 7 KO) and just never letting the 21-year-old prospect find a rhythm.

It was also an emotional fight to watch, particularly in those final two rounds, because it was clear that Flores was beaten and had nothing left.

His father and trainer, Gabriel Flores Sr, did want to stop it after the ninth, but the son talked the father into continuing, and then when Flores Sr looked to stop it with about 12 seconds left in the fight, the referee didn’t hear him, so it went to the cards.
