Richardson Hitchins vs. Gustavo Lemos Preview and Free Pick

Last Updated on April 2, 2024 6:37 pm by Erwin Noguera

Undefeated contenders Richardson Hitchins and Gustavo Daniel Lemos will square off on Saturday, April 6, in an IBF super lightweight title eliminator fight at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas.

Hitchins (17-0, 7 KOs) has yet to taste defeat since turning pro in 2017. The 26-year-old Brooklyn native has won two of his last five fights by knockout. In his most recent fight in September 2022, he earned a unanimous decision over Jose Zepeda.

Lemos (29-0, 19 KOs) also puts his perfect record on the line. The Argentinean slugger has 19 knockouts on his resume, including a fifth-round technical knockout of former champion Lee Selby last March. At 28, he is the more experienced of the two rising contenders.

The winner of this 12-round showdown will be in line to compete for the IBF 140-pound championship later this year. With a chance at a world title fight on the line, expect both men to leave it all in the ring at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on Saturday night.

Why Bet on Richardson Hitchins?

Richardson Hitchins had a successful amateur boxing career before turning professional in 2017. He was a six-time national champion and won gold at the 2014 World Youth Championships.

Other amateur accomplishments include winning the 2015 National Golden Gloves and finishing as a quarterfinalist at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

As a professional, Hitchins has quickly risen through the ranks with an undefeated record of 17-0 with seven knockouts. He scored his most remarkable win in September 2022, defeating Jose Zepeda by unanimous decision.

Other notable professional fights for Hitchins include a TKO win over Angel Sarinana Rodriguez in 2022 and a decision win over former world title challenger Argenis Mendez in 2020. He has demonstrated excellent boxing skills and quick hands that have allowed him to remain undefeated since turning pro.

Why Bet on Gustavo Daniel Lemos?

Gustavo Lemos had a successful amateur boxing career, winning a bronze medal at the 2011 Pan American Games and representing Argentina at the 2012 London Olympics.

As a professional, Lemos has amassed an impressive 29-0 record with 19 knockouts. He won the WBO Latin light welterweight title in 2014 and then captured the WBO Latin light welterweight belt in 2016.

With an undefeated record and regional title success, Lemos has proven he is ready to compete for a world title at 140 pounds. His upcoming fight with Richardson Hitchins will determine the IBF mandatory challenger.

Final Betting Analysis: Richardson Hitchins vs. Gustavo Daniel Lemos

This is an interesting matchup between two undefeated fighters. Hitchins is a skilled boxer who likes to use his footwork and hand speed to rack up points on the scorecards. He also has good defensive skills and is hard to hit cleanly. On the other hand, Lemos brings more power and aggressiveness as he gets forward, cutting to the rim to take tough shots.

Lemos’ pressure could cause problems for Hitchins if he can’t keep him on the end of his shots. The Brooklyn native doesn’t have much power, so he’ll need to stay active and avoid prolonged exchanges inside, where the Argentinean can do damage.

I’m leaning toward Hitchins to win a close decision. His mobility and boxing skills should allow him to offset Lemos’ power. As long as he doesn’t allow the latter to bully him and stays disciplined with his game plan, he can pepper him with shots and avoid taking a lot of punishment in return.

Lemos may have moments where he catches Hitchins and hits hard, but for 12 rounds, we expect the American’s superior speed and skills to earn him the nod on the judges’ scorecards.

Go for a victory for Richardson at 1.183. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $18.3 for a total payout of $118.3
