Robeisy Ramirez vs. Rafael Espinoza Preview and Free Pick

Last Updated on December 6, 2023 4:06 pm by Erwin Noguera

Twelve rounds of pure action are expected in Florida because two of the best featherweight boxers will face each other: Cuban Robeisy Ramirez will expose his World Boxing Organization (WBO) world title against Mexican Rafael ‘Divino’ Espinoza. Even though ‘Divino’ has more years in the ring, both fighters are of great caliber in the market of this category, which is why Top Rank bet on giving them the stellar fight.

Ramirez will have one more chance to cement his big goal for next year, to unify the featherweight crown against Mexican Luis Alberto Lopez, who holds the International Boxing Federation (IBF) crown.

For his part, Espinoza will be fighting on U.S. soil for the third time in his 10-year career, so winning the belt would give him the recognition he needs to challenge for bigger fights in the immediate future.

The other big fight will feature Puerto Rican gem Xander Zayas (17-0) taking on Spanish veteran Jorge Fortea (24-3-1).

Why bet on Robeisy Ramírez?

Robeisy Ramirez came to boxing a little later than the rest. His amateur career took his first years as an athlete, but what he achieved was no small thing, as he is a two-time Olympic champion. The 29-year-old Cuban is one of the best featherweights in the world, and his World Boxing Organization crown confirms it.

This year, the Cienfuegos native has had two fights, in April against Isaac Dogboe to win his belt, and then in July, he defended it in Japan against local Satoshi Shimizu.

There is no doubt that Ramirez is a danger in the ring, especially because he is a Cuban school fighter, intelligent, and always waiting for the right moment to attack his opponent’s weaknesses. The fact that he has only eight knockouts in his career reaffirms this condition.

His professional career began with a setback, as he lost a decision to Adan Gonzalez in Philadelphia but, after that, he has beaten every opponent he has faced, making Las Vegas his ground.

Miami is home to many Latinos, but especially Cubans, so he could have a lot of support in his bid to defend his throne.

His height is 1.68 meters, while he has a reach of 1.73 meters, which speaks to the length of his arms.

Why bet on Rafael Espinoza?

Rafael Espinoza Zepeda is the same age as his next opponent but has fought more fights, having stepped into the ring 21 times. The ‘Divino’ is undefeated as a professional, and his last victory came in Mexico City when he defeated Ally Mwerangi, a boxer from Tanzania.

Espinoza has won 18 of his 21 fights by knockout, and the last time he triumphed by decision was on January 16, 2021, that is, two years and 11 months ago.

As a good Mexican, the ‘Divino’ is a fighter who is not afraid to go forward to seek victory. He is 1.85 meters, so he is much taller than his opponent. However, there is a point that generates unknowns, and the Mexican is used to fighting in front of his people because this will only be his third fight in the United States.

In 2014, he beat Victor Serrano in California, while in 2015, he defeated Karl Garcia in Hollywood. Since then, he has always fought in his homeland.
