The CONCACAF Gold Cup is one of the most traditional competitions in the Americas, as it brings together teams from North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and guests.
Mexico, the United States, and Canada have been the only winners of the Gold Cup since it began in 1991. Usually held in the United States, every two years, the competition measures the strength of the main powers in North America, heating the great rivalry existing between the United States and Mexico.
Mexico is the greatest champion. Before 1991, the Gold Cup had a different format and used other names, as it had not yet established itself as a solid competition in its organization. Between 1963 and 1989, it was possible to see Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Haiti being champions.
In the current edition, 12 teams participate, separated into 4 groups with 4 selections. Each day, only one or two groups play their games. This Sunday, the teams from groups A and B will enter the field, in what is the decisive round of the group stage.

Honduras and Haiti face each other for the third round of the Gold Cup, representing group B, which still has undefined positions. Mexico leads with 6 points, followed by Haiti (3), Qatar (1), and Honduras (1).
Sunday’s confrontation will put face to face the last place in the group – Honduras – against Haiti, who already beat Qatar and scored a goal in Mexico. In the 2021 edition, Haiti and Honduras failed to advance to the final stages, having been eliminated early: Haiti finished 3rd in the group, while Honduras managed to qualify, but lost to Mexico in the quarterfinals.

Finally, we’ll cover the match between another one of the favorites and an Island nation that has been doing good lately. Cuba made good participation in the last Nations League’s group stage, so they will dispute the next edition in League A, alongside the Concacaf elite. They also managed to qualify for this tournament but have been a disappointment so far.
However, we could say that the political issues that always surround this nation’s teams were the problem, as many players took the opportunity to defect. This is normal but still seems to have taken a great toll. They come with 2 defeats and were already eliminated.
Canada has been a disappointment too, especially with their draw against Guadeolupe, the surprise package of this edition. However, in their defense, they put all their weapons in the Nations League as the USA, and their most important players are now on vacation. It may seem obvious, but they don’t have the same squad deep as the most traditional powerhouses of this conference, so, even if we believe they’ll win and pass to the next round, we don’t think they’ll go far.
