CONCACAF Champions Cup: Semifinals First leg Preview

Last Updated on April 22, 2024 6:53 pm by Erwin Noguera

The CONCACAF Champions Cup is back in action, and this week, we will have the first legs of the semifinals. The final is closer than ever, and the teams are looking forward to the title that will guarantee a spot in the next Club World Cup, a massive event renewed with plenty of money in prices.

The teams still alive in the tournament are America, Pachuca, Columbus Crew, and Monterrey. We have an absolute dominance of Liga MX over the rest of the CONCACAF leagues. However, we must remember that Columbus Crew is the current MLS champion, so they are not a Cinderella of any sort.

On the other hand, it is also fair to mention that the odds of the champion being a Mexican team are high because if we see, they are 75% of the teams that are still alive right now in the tournament. We have to add that all the remaining Aztec clubs were favorites to lift the trophy from the very beginning.

América continues to lead the Liga MX standings in this Clausura 2024 tournament. Although there is only one matchday left in the regular season, the Águilas have already secured their place in the top four and, as a result, have already qualified directly for the Liguilla.

In this CONCACAF Champions Cup, América started with doubts in the first round, losing 1-2 to Real Estelí in the first leg, but they managed a 2-0 victory at home to win the series in the second leg. On the other hand, in the Round of 16, they defeated Guadalajara with a 5-3 aggregate score, while in the Quarterfinals, they annihilated the MLS side New England Revolution with an excellent aggregate score of 9-2. With this, we have to say that the team arrives with confidence in front of goal to this semifinals.

On the other hand, Pachuca is another of the contenders in Liga MX, and although they are currently sixth in the table, they could climb to third place if certain results occur on the last day of the Clausura 2024 regular season. Now, in this Champions Cup, Pachuca started from the Round of 16 and achieved a victory over Philadelphia Union with a 6-0 aggregate score. Finally, in the Quarterfinals, they crushed Herediano with a spectacular score of 7-1 to get their ticket to the final four.

For this match, our prediction is a win for America.

Columbus Crew are the reigning MLS champions, so it is no surprise they find themselves in this CONCACAF Champions Cup. The team is currently in fourth place in the MLS Eastern Conference with a record of three wins, five draws, and one loss, five points behind Inter Miami at the top.

However, in this Champions Cup, they got off to a great start with a 2-1 aggregate win over Houston Dynamo in the Round of 16. Then, in the quarterfinals, they had a much more complicated task, as they had to face Tigres UANL of Liga MX, and after a 2-2 aggregate score, they had to go to a penalty shootout to decide who would qualify. In the end, the MLS team won on penalties by 4-3.

On the other hand, Monterrey has been playing at a high level this season. Not only because they are in the top four in Liga MX, but the team is solid and has a scary attack. However, right now, they are in a rut, as they have three losses and one draw in their last four games.

Now, in this Champions Cup, Monterrey defeated Comunicaciones in the first round with a 7-1 aggregate score. Then, in the Round of 16, they crushed FC Cincinnati of the MLS with a score of 3-1. In the Quarterfinals, they put Leo Messi and Inter Miami out of action with a 5-2 aggregate win.

It will be a very interesting match, but this time, we believe Columbus Crew will take the victory.

Columbus Crew vs. Monterrey Betting Pick: Columbus Crew
