Inter had the complete intention of not letting themselves down by the explosiveness and control of the game with which Liverpool carve their way into the Champions League. However, although they punished those led by Jurgen Klopp; they could not leave Anfield alive towards the quarterfinals of this UEFA Champions League. The beautiful goal of Lautaro Martínez served to break the streak of the Reds. Sadly, it was not enough to compensate for the two goals against that weighed in the first leg in Milan.

Although indeed, those led by Inzaghi did not seem to believe in the comeback. At least, they did not show it on the pitch during the first half of this match; since they disturbed Alisson’s goal on a few occasions, while Liverpool was not playing comfortably on the pitch.

Liverpool then, says goodbye to the first half with a header off the post by Matip, another by Van Dijk that was close, and a precise free-kick by Alexander-Arnold that was near the goal.

Second Half

The second half completely changed the perspective of the game, since both teams came out with everything to win, remembering that Inter needed at least two goals and not conceding any, to take the game to extra time, and then penalties.

In the second half, Liverpool pressed with an action by Alexander Arnold and, above all, with a shot by Salah that hit the left post of a Handanovic goal that was fatal in that action.

Shortly after this action from Liverpool, the Argentinian striker Lautaro Martínez scored a superb goal with a shot from outside the box to Alisson’s top corner in the 61st minute. When it seemed that Inter was coming on top of Liverpool, Alexis Sanchez made another hard foul, this one on Fabinho, he saw the second yellow card and was expelled from the match. This greatly conditioned all of Inter’s attacks.

From this moment on, Inter completely disappeared from the field and Liverpool had only one chance with a shot by Salah. Liverpool settled for a 0-1 loss since they knew that this would ensure their place in the quarterfinals.
