Tigres (2) vs. Cruz Azul (2) – Results

The emotions of Liga MX continue and, on matchday 8, we were able to enjoy a great match between two teams that are playing at the top of their game. So, from the previous one, we expected it to be an extremely exciting match, with quality play.

When Tigres UANL were about to celebrate their momentary leadership in this Liga MX Clausura 2022 tournament; Cruz Azul managed to score the equalizer to spoil their celebration and bring a dramatic and frenetic close to the match. After this result, those led by Miguel Herrera are in third place in the table with 17 points, while those led by Juan Reynoso are in fourth place with 14 points.

First Half

Tigres were superior from the beginning of the game, although possession of the ball at the end of the first half favored Cruz Azul with 51%, the university team (Tigres) managed to shoot 11 times, where 5 of those shots were direct to the Cruz Azul goal.

André-Pierre Gignac opened the scoring in the 11th minute, after a center by Luis Quiñones into the Cruz Azul area that Vigón gave to the Frenchman to put Tigres ahead on the scoreboard.

Cruz Azul had the opportunity to score the tying goal in the 27th minute, but the play was annulled due to an offside by Bryan Angulo decreed by the main referee.

Four minutes later, Tigres managed to score their second goal of the game thanks to Vigón who, thanks to his excellent position due to his false 9 position, managed to push the ball into the back of the Cruz Azul net, after a pass from Quiñones from the left side.

Before the end of the first half, in added time, Cruz Azul managed to cause a surprise by scoring their first goal of the match thanks to Peruvian Luis Abram who, after a free kick taken, managed to change the trajectory of the ball to the far post and score the goal, to end the first half with a score of 2-1.

Second Half

The game turned into a round trip in the second half. Both teams were looking for a way to score the goal that would give them the courage and confidence to finish getting the victory.

Guido Pizarro had a chance to set up the third goal for Tigres, but the feline captain couldn’t give the ball a good direction with the goal in front of him.

In the 87th minute, Cruz Azul goalkeeper Jose Corona managed to avoid Tigres’ third goal, when Gignac entered the area with great danger. After this, at minute 90+4, Cruz Azul managed to tie the game, through a shot by Ignacio Rivero after an excellent play by Santi Giménez.
