Last Updated on April 16, 2024 8:07 pm by Erwin Noguera

The Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship is a PGA Tour event held annually in the Dominican Republic since 2018. The 2024 tournament is scheduled for April 18-21 at the Corales Golf Club in Punta Cana.  With a purse of $3.8 million to be shared and 300 FedExCup points to the winner, this marks a new edition of the event and the highest prize money in the history of Dominican sports.

The championship was born from an alliance between Grupo Puntacana and the PGA Tour to promote golf tourism in the Dominican Republic. The tournament has continued to grow, attracting an increasingly stellar field each year.  The 2024 event promises to be the largest yet, with 132 players from 20 countries on five continents competing.

With a $3.8 million purse and FedEx Cup points on offer, the Corales Punta Cana Championship has attracted another strong field in 2024. Past champions like Joel Dahmen and Brice Garnett will be looking to compete again, while Charley Hoffman and other PGA Tour winners will also be in the mix. Latin American stars like Nicolas Echavarria and Jonathan Vegas add local flavor to the event.

Relevant participants

Some of golf’s biggest names have confirmed they will tee off at the Corales Puntacana 2024 Championship.

Leading the field is veteran Charley Hoffman, a 5-time PGA Tour winner who once served as chairman of the Tour’s Player Advisory Council. Rising star Justin Suh will also be in the field. The 26-year-old has made a name for himself with several high placings in his young career, including a runner-up finish at the 2022 Wyndham Championship. Suh’s powerful and accurate driving makes him a threat on any course.

Other notable early commitments include Ben Martin and Adam Long. Martin is a former PGA Tour winner best known for his elite putting stroke and ability to scramble the greens. Long earned his first career victory at the 2019 Desert Classic and will look to compete in Puntacana with his well-rounded game.

Latin America will be well represented at the Corales Puntacana 2024 Championship. Leading the charge is Nicolas Echavarria of Colombia. Echavarria has one Korn Ferry Tour victory in his career and has played in several PGA Tour events in recent years.

Jonathan Vegas of Venezuela is another Latin American to watch. Vegas has won several times on the PGA Tour, including the 2011 Bob Hope Classic.  He continues to play regularly on the PGA Tour when healthy.

Puerto Rican Rafa Campos will be looking to compete on a course he knows well.  Campos grew up playing golf in the Dominican Republic and has played in this event several times. A top-10 finish would be a great result for him.

The Course: Corales Golf Club

Corales Golf Club is home to the PGA Tour’s Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.  Designed by the legendary Tom Fazio, this 7,670-yard, par-72 course meanders through cliffs, coral quarries, and seaside greens.

Opened in 2010, Corales winds through distinctive tropical Caribbean vegetation including royal palms, coconut palms, and ancient trees. Its 18 holes offer spectacular views of the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean, providing a majestic backdrop.

The course begins gently but culminates in a dramatic trio of oceanfront holes on the back nine.  The 15th is a short par four that plays along the ocean cliffs. The 16th requires a 200-yard carry over the ocean to reach the green. The 18th is a strong par four finishing hole with an infinity green overlooking the ocean.
