2024 Valero Texas Open Preview and Betting Odds

Last Updated on April 1, 2024 7:48 pm by Erwin Noguera

The 2024 Valero Texas Open returns to TPC San Antonio the week before the Masters, offering golfers a final tune-up opportunity before heading to Augusta. The event, which runs April 4-7, 2024, features a star-studded field with many of the world’s best players.

Headlining the tournament is Rory McIlroy, who is looking to gain momentum after finishing E19 at The Players Championship. Other notable names in the field include Jordan Spieth, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg, Max Homa, and Adam Scott. With more than $9 million at stake, the competition will be fierce as golfers compete for the title and, at the same time, use the event to prepare for the first major of the year the following week.

The Oaks course at TPC San Antonio offers a stiff test before Augusta National. Long par 4s that require accuracy off the tee and thick, uneven shots that penalize Bermuda will require golfers to be sharp.

Previous Winners

The Valero Texas Open has seen its share of drama and remarkable finishes by some of golf’s biggest stars.

In 2023, Corey Conners emerged victorious in a sudden-death playoff against Sam Stevens to capture his second PGA Tour title.

In 2022, J.J. Spaun won the championship trophy after leaving Matt Jones, Matt Kuchar, and Hadwidn in his wake. Finally, in 2021, Jordan Spieth ended a multi-year winless drought by claiming the Valero Texas Open, providing momentum ahead of the Masters, where he finished third.

Before Spieth’s victory, the 2020 event was canceled due to COVID-19 after Corey Conners won in 2019. Other recent champions include Andrew Landry (2018) and Kevin Chappell (2017).

2024 Valero Texas Open: The Course

The Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio will be the venue. This par 72 layout measures 7,494 yards from the tips and features narrow fairways lined with oak trees and small greens. Greg Norman created the course, which debuted in 2010.

The Oaks has held the Valero Texas Open since 2010, when the tournament moved here from La Cantera Golf Club. It provides a good test for players heading to the Masters with its fast Bermuda greens and demanding tee shots. In addition, the prevailing wind can also mimic the conditions players may face at Augusta National.

Notable holes include the par 3, 16th, which features an island green, and the 18th hole, which plays as a challenging par 5 that stretches 591 yards uphill. The final stretch of the course from holes 16-18 is where tournaments are often decided.

2024 Valero Texas Open – Betting picks

The 20234 Valero Texas Open boasts one of the strongest fields in recent memory, with several big-name players playing at TPC San Antonio before the Masters.

Rory McIlroy leads the field as he looks to gain momentum heading into Augusta. The former world number one knows what it’s like to win at the PGA Tour’s biggest tournaments and will be eager to capture another victory in Texas.

Jordan Spieth is another prominent name in the field. The Texan will enjoy plenty of support from the home state as he seeks his first win since 2021. Spieth is a former champion at TPC San Antonio, having won the Valero Texas Open in 2016.

Other notable players include Brian Harman, Hideki Matsuyama, and Collin Morikawa, who are also looking to make a run at the table to take the win.

Unless something extraordinary happens, current world #2 Rory McIlroy should be able to take the honors at this 2024 Valero Texas Open.
