Lions vs. Vikings Preview and Betting Odds

Last Updated on January 7, 2024 5:02 am by Gambyl Nation Editorial Team

The division-leading Lions come into this final game of the regular season with an 11-win and five losses run, having clinched their spot in the playoffs with a victory against this same rival not long ago. The Lions are out for redemption after that 2-point conversion call against them in the Cowboys game last week.

The Vikings are 3rd in the conference, with seven wins and nine losses, but are looking to shoot all their bullets left looking for the postseason.

One of the teams may feature a second-choice squad, but this is one of the games to follow this Sunday.

Why Bet on the Lions?

Dan Campbell is still probably fuming at how his team lost to the Dallas Cowboys on the controversial referee call. Still, the Lions can look for momentum as they prepare to host their first playoff game since 1994 and, possibly, move up to the No. 2 seed by the end of the week.

That is a great possibility to build up some speed before things kick off into the most important part of the NFL season, the playoffs..

Detroit has been one of the pleasant surprises of the season. Jared Goff has been especially remarkable, as the quarterback has the third-most passing yards completed in the league. RB David Montgomery has also presented a remarkable performance, as although he is far from the monstrous season of Christian McCaffrey, his almost one thousand rushing yards are also quite the feat.

Why Bet on the Vikings?

Despite a Week 17 loss, the Minnesota Vikings (7-9) still have an outside shot of making the playoffs, and it would start with a huge game this weekend. However, it is not that easy. We did our homework but will cite the NBC as their qualification would be quite the feat.

Setting the percentages aside, the Vikings get in with: (1) a win over the Lions; (2) a loss by the Packers to the Bears; (2) a loss by the Seahawks to the Cardinals; and (4) a loss by the Buccaneers to the Panthers or a loss by the Saints to the Falcons.

The main problem for this team has been the QB position. The issues came into the national spotlight last week when they suffered a big-time home loss against the Green Bay Packers, thus making their chances of the playoffs extremely slim. Minnesota will hope to have a lucky week to get the miracle.

However, without a competent playmaker to guide the team, we doubt it’s worth reaching the postseason at this stage, as the result will, more than likely, be the same as last year. The position was occupied by Nick Mullens last week, who except for a sole TD pass, had an unremarkable participation, being completely obliterated in the one-on-one by Jordan Love.

Lions vs. Vikings Final Betting Analysis:

Detroit may be ultra-motivated after last week’s game, and there is no way to have confidence in any of the quarterbacks Minnesota trots out there. Plus, the Lions still have a shot (remote as it may be) at the No. 2 seed, if both the Cowboys and Eagles lose their games.

However, it appeared last week that, after three failed two-point conversions, they’re just fine being No. 3 when the playoffs begin. Notwithstanding, they are still a much better team than the Vikings and will probably allow backup Teddy Bridgewater to play in what’s, likely, his last NFL regular-season game.

Go for a victory for the locals at 1.51. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $51 for a total payout of $151.
