NFL Week 3: Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins
The Buffalo Bills (3-0) have a perfect start with three wins, thanks to their latest victory over a team that only knows defeat, the Miami Dolphins (0-3). The home team won 31–21.
A touchdown in each quarter, plus a field goal in the last, was enough for the Bills to secure the victory. Josh Allen once again proved to be the key piece, completing 22 of 28 passes (79%) for three touchdowns.
Dalton Kincaid, Khalil Shakir, and rookie tight end Jackson Hawes were the recipients. For Hawes, who arrived from Georgia Tech, it was his first NFL touchdown. In addition, running back James Cook continues to show why the team renewed his contract, scoring another rushing touchdown — his fourth of the season and his seventh straight regular-season game finding the end zone.
On defense, Buffalo didn’t record any sacks, but Terrel Bernard grabbed an interception. Despite the loss, Tua Tagovailoa had a solid outing with 22 completions on 34 attempts for 146 yards and two touchdowns, caught by Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. Rookie Ollie Gordon also scored his first touchdown on a run; the Oklahoma State running back was selected in the sixth round.
The Dolphins sit at the bottom of their division and haven’t started 0-3 since 2019, when they went as far as 0-7.
Result: Buffalo Bills 31 – 21 Miami Dolphins
NFL Week 3: New York Giants vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs woke up from their poor start and convincingly defeated the New York Giants on the road, 22–9.
Patrick Mahomes was the spark for the team, throwing for 224 yards on 22 completions out of 37 attempts. His lone passing touchdown came in the third quarter to wide receiver Tyquan Thornton, while Kareem Hunt sealed the victory with a rushing score six minutes from the end.
The key was the defense, which intercepted Russell Wilson twice thanks to Christian Roland-Wallace and Jaylen Watson.
It was a low-production offensive game, as shown by the 9–6 halftime score, three field goals for the visitors, and a touchdown by rookie running back Cameron Skattebo, who already has two this season and was the Giants’ most-used player with 10 carries.
It wasn’t Wilson’s night, as he completed just 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards, was picked off twice, and sacked two times.
Result: New York Giants 9 – 22 Kansas City Chiefs
NFL Week 3: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Los Angeles Rams
The reigning champions have started their title defense in full force, moving to a 3-0 record after defeating the Los Angeles Rams 33–26.
Jalen Hurts had an outstanding game, completing 21 of 32 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding nine carries for 40 yards and another score on the ground.
Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, along with tight end Dallas Goedert, caught the team’s touchdowns. Brown stood out with 109 yards on six receptions. On the ground, besides Hurts, Saquon Barkley handled 18 carries —the two were the only ones to run the ball.
Linebacker Zack Baun recorded an interception, while defensive tackle Jordan Davis had the team’s lone sack.
As for the Rams, they entered at 2-0 but now drop to 2-1, sitting last in the NFC West. Matthew Stafford completed 19 of 33 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns, scored by Davante Adams and Kyren Williams.
Despite 31 rushing attempts, the Rams failed to reach the end zone on the ground. Williams carried the ball 20 times for 94 yards.
Result: Philadelphia Eagles 33 – 26 Los Angeles Rams
NFL Week 3: Baltimore Ravens vs. Detroit Lions
In a great matchup between two contenders that could very well meet in the Super Bowl, the Detroit Lions pulled off a big surprise by defeating the Baltimore Ravens on the road, 30–38.
This time, the Lions’ game wasn’t so much through the air as it was on the ground. While Jared Goff completed 20 of 28 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown to Amon-Ra St. Brown, the team ran in four touchdowns.
There were 34 carries between running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, with each scoring twice. Aside from them, Goff had just four rushing attempts. Montgomery stood out with 151 yards on 12 carries.
For the Ravens, Lamar Jackson had a strong performance. The quarterback completed 21 of 27 passes for a 78% completion rate, 288 yards, and three touchdowns. He wasn’t intercepted but was sacked seven times, losing 55 yards.
Tight end Mark Andrews scored twice, while wide receiver Rashod Bateman added another. On the ground, Derrick Henry had 12 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown, while Jackson ran seven times for 35 yards.
Defensively, Baltimore fell short, as they couldn’t record a single sack, which was a key factor in their defeat. The game was decided in the fourth quarter, where the Lions scored 17 points after entering tied at 21–21.
Result: Baltimore Ravens 30 – 38 Detroit Lions
