MLB Weekly Preview 4

Last Updated on April 15, 2024 11:00 am by Erwin Noguera

The 2024 MLB season is in full swing as we reach the halfway point of April with Week 4 matchups. This Monday features some exciting duels between playoff contenders that will have implications on the standings.

The Baltimore Orioles host the Minnesota Twins in an American League showdown. The Twins are trying to keep pace with the Guardians at the top of the division while the Orioles look to gain ground on the Yankees.

A battle takes place in the American League East between the Blue Jays and Yankees. Toronto is coming off a disappointing start while the Yankees try to stay on top of their division this early in the season.

The Braves host the Astros in an exciting interleague series. Houston has a loaded lineup, but Atlanta’s excellent pitching and the performance of Albies, Acuna Jr., and Arcia will be tested.

Finally, the Dodgers and Nationals face a crucial clash between two teams in different situations at the start of the season. The Dodgers are favorites to win the division again, while Washington could pull off a surprise.

Here is a preview of the best games we can enjoy in Week 4 of the 2024 MLB season.

MLB Weekly Preview 4: Orioles vs. Twins

When and Where?

Monday, April 15, 6:35 pm ET at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards

Moneyline odds:

Orioles 2.805

Twins 1.435

Both teams have had a somewhat inconsistent start to the season but still have a chance to get into the fight for the top of their respective divisions. The Orioles are favorites in the AL East, but they will have to fight against all odds and against a formidable team like the Yankees, who have started the season with a bang.

Likewise, they come into Week 4 with nine wins and six losses, 2.50 games behind the Yankees at the top, and a 6-4 record in the last ten games.  However, they are coming off a game-saving 6-4 win over the Brewers in their away series. For this game, the Orioles will have Cole Irving as their starter, who, despite his slow start, is always a reliable lefty for the team.

The Twins, on the other hand, have been disappointing in every way this early in the season, failing to win back-to-back games.  However, with a 6-8 record, they sit third in the AL Central division, 3.50 games behind the Guardians at the top.

Minnesota plays better on the road than at home, but it will be tough to handle the Orioles and Irving in this matchup.

For this game, our prediction is a win for the Baltimore Orioles.

Orioles vs. Twins Betting Pick: Orioles

MLB Weekly Preview 4: Blue Jays vs. Yankees

Yankees 1.84

Toronto comes into this Week 4 opener as the “worst” team in the AL East. However, their record is 8-8, and they are only 1.50 games behind Baltimore for second place.  Likewise, it is fair to mention that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. did not start the season as he would have dreamed, hitting just .194 AVG with 3 HR and 6 RBI. However, Justin Turner is getting the offense going with .386 AVG, 8 RBI, and .481 OBP.

The Blue Jays will have Chris Bassitt as the starter for this game, who has a 1-2 record this early in the season with a 5.06 ERA and 1.81 WHIP.  Toronto is coming off two consecutive wins over the Rockies by scores of 5-3 and 5-0.

On the other hand, the Yankees come into this game as one of the best teams in the entire league, as their fearsome lineup with Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Staton, and company is dangerous. The Big Apple team comes into this Week 4 opener sitting in first place in the AL East with an excellent 12-4 record, with a 7-3 record in the last ten games played.

The Yankees are 4-2 playing away from home.  Their starter for this game is Luis Gil, and their new addition, Juan Soto, has shined so far with 3 HR, 15 RBI, and .344 AVG.

For this game, our prediction is a win for the NY Yankees.

Blue Jays vs. Yankees Betting Pick: Blue Jays

MLB Weekly Preview 4: Astros vs. Braves

When and Where?

Monday, April 15, 8:10 pm ET at the Minute Maid Park

Moneyline odds:

Astros 1.66

Braves 2.216

The Astros have a 6-11 record, terrible for last place in the American League West. The team has had a lot of trouble finding the pace of play necessary to contend at the top of the standings. However, keep in mind that Houston is a team of streaks, and of course, they are very close to the top of the division.  In addition, Altuve (.382 AVG, 5 HR, and 7 RBI) and Tucker (13 RBI, 4 HR) have started at full strength this season.

Houston comes into this game after two consecutive victories, the most recent against the Texas Rangers, with a score of 8-5.

On the other side, the Atlanta Braves come in on a mission to get a win away from home to stay atop the NL East at this point in the season. The team has a 9-5 record, with a 4-2 balance at home and 5-3 on the road.  Marcel Ozuna is the best bat this lineup has this early in the season, as he has .373 AVG, 7 HR, and 21 RBI. However, Ronald Acuna Jr. may wake up at any moment.

These two franchises have developed a bit of a rivalry in recent years. Houston defeated Atlanta in 7 games in the 2021 World Series. The Astros also eliminated the Braves in the 2020 National League Championship Series. Atlanta got revenge by taking 2 of 3 from Houston earlier this season. With the playoffs just around the corner, both teams will be eager to make a statement this week.

For this game, our prediction is a win for the Houston Astros.

Astros vs. Braves Betting Pick: Astros

MLB Weekly Preview 4: Dodgers vs. Nationals

When and Where?

Monday, April 15, 10:10 pm ET at the Dodger Stadium

Moneyline odds:

Dodgers 2.02

Nationals 1.79

The Dodgers, with their Ohtani-Betts duo, have gotten off to a hot start this season and, thanks to that, are leading the NL West with an 11-7 record. However, we can’t say it’s a dream start to the season either, considering their top-tier roster. Likewise, the team plays much better at home, so they will have that advantage to look for the victory in this Week 4 opener.

The Angelinos will have Tyler Glasnow on the mound as the starting pitcher in this game, who has a 3-0 record in this season opener.  They are coming off a 3-6 loss to the San Diego Padres.

On the other hand, the Nats are still in the rebuilding period this season, but they have managed to add some wins that keep them in fourth place in the NL East with a 6-9 record. However, this time, we have the team 3.50 games behind the Braves at the top of the standings, so they will need a wake-up call to avoid falling that far out of contention for first place.

Washington will have Mitchell Parker making his first start of the season. Meanwhile, Joey Gallo, Jesse Winker, and Lane Thomas have started the season with a bang.

For this game, we do not doubt that the Dodgers are the clear favorites to win.

Dodgers vs. Nationals Betting Pick: Dodgers
