History of Epic Games
Epic Games, Inc. is an American video game and software developing company based in Cary, North Carolina. Initially, the company was founded as, Potomac Computer Systems, in 1991 by Tim Sweeney, and had been located in Potomac, Maryland. Then, by 1992, the name changed to Epic MegaGames Inc., and Mark Rein joined, becoming the Vice President of the company. In 1999, the two video game programmers moved their base to Cary and officially shortened their name to, Epic Games Inc. The company is responsible for many successful developments and lucrative strategies. One of their most notable achievements is the creation and release of an online video game, Fortnite Battle Royale on September 26, 2017. In 2011, it was introduced as a trailer and displayed on stage at the Spike Video Game Awards. Fornite became highly popular, captivating up to 125 million gamers.
Where Can You Play Fortnite?
Fortnite Battle Royale is available for all users on Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and mobile devices such as iOS and Android. While the game is free of charge, you must create an account with Epic Games in order to officially join.
How To Play Fortnite
Fortnite Battle Royale includes 100 players, and the objective of the game is to fight each other in combat in order to be the last one standing to receive the title, Victory Royale. The concept was inspired by the Japanese novel, Battle Royale, which focuses on fighting until you’re the last one standing. Fortnite starts by assigning you a Commander, and you have the freedom to choose your avatar’s gender, clothing, dance move, etc. Then, you can decide on playing Fornite Battle Royale in specific modes that consist of, Solos, Duos, Squads, Team Rumble, Battle Lab, and/or Limited time modes. That way, you will be given the option to either play with friends/strangers or take on the challenging task of playing by yourself.
In many video games, the general goal is to maximize on eliminating as many players as possible. Meaning, the more players you kill, the more success you obtain as a gamer. However, when playing Fortnite, it is suggested that one takes a different approach. While it is impressive and rather essential to take out the players attempting to kill your avatar, it’s more beneficial to take cover and hide. If you exude all of your energy on trying to eliminate rivals, you are significantly more susceptible to facing elimination yourself. Remember, the goal is to be the last one standing, so approach the game passively. Focus your energies on hiding effectively, and killing those only when necessary. The strategy should guarantee Victory Royale.
Map and Navigation
After picking your avatar and game mode, you are taken to the Lobby. The Lobby is located on a separate island southwest of the map. The mechanics of the lobby are the same as the match, except you can’t kill players. The area is designed for you to wait for the Battle Bus, which is the form of transportation that takes you to the island map. While waiting, you can pick up items, such as traps, weapons, bandages, and resources; however, once the match begins, the materials picked up in the lobby will disappear. So, use the period to practice pinpointing items and using weapons without the anxiety of being targeted by an opponent. You can also locate spots on the map to set an objective, or let your squad know of where you’re dropping.
The map is designed for Fortnite Chapter two, released on October 15, 2019, which consists of thirteen main locations: Sweaty Sands, Holly Hedges, The Tortilla, Salty Springs, Rickety Rig, Pleasant Park, The Authority, Mistry Meadows, Frenzy Farm, Steamy Stacks, Lazy Lake, Misty Meadow, Catty Corner, and Retail Row. Once you arrive at one of these locations, the avatar will be ejected from the bus and on to the island, and the game begins.
Once you are ejected from the Battle Bus, distance yourself from other players! Landing on the island while being surrounded by the enemy will lead to elimination. Isolating yourself will pave the way for the opportunity to hide in a building, or behind a tree, which then provides you with the time to plan out the next steps while maintaining safety.
Now, navigating on land by running and walking is doable. However, think two steps ahead of the game by attempting to locate the motorboat. You might be thinking, “doesn’t the boat only help the player get around in the water?” Well, actually, the boat can help you get to different locations on land as well. You will become incredibly efficient when having a boat in your clutches. So, make sure to target one at some point in the game!
There are also Fortnite helicopters, also known as Choppas. They are not as raised as the motorboats, but they are very effective when it comes to transporting you across the island. They do not come with built-in weapons, but, you and your teammates can still use your own arsenals to attack people from the sides
Building
What makes Fortnite so legendary is building forts! In order to gain supplies to build, you must obtain mats around the area. Use the pickaxe given to the avatar at the beginning of the game, then cut down trees to obtain wood, or break down the materials of houses to gain metal or brick. There are four basic structures that you can create, the floor, ramp, wall, and the cone/pyramid for a roof. Players can edit their structures by adding a door, or a window. So, with the power to create as many buildings as you want, a common misconception develops. Many players think it’s a good idea to continuously build many forts during Battle Royale. However, while it’s beneficial to create one fort for hiding purpose, it is more effective to make ramps. It will allow you to get to inaccessible places and elevates you above your opponents.
Looting and Weaponry
Once you have landed, the first thing your avatar should do is loot and find materials (also known as, mats). Look for floor loot, which spawns on the grounds of buildings, supply drop that falls from the sky, providing you with healing items and ammo, and lastly, chests.
Do not loot the corpses immediately after eliminating an opponent. There is a significantly high chance that someone could be watching you complete this kill, and might dive in for the loot as well, putting you in danger. So, you should wait a few seconds before looting a corpse.
Another way to loot efficiently would be to target the Supply Llama. It is a purple and blue llama pinata that has become a rather prevalent symbol of the game. From buildings to high up in the trees, they are stashed all throughout the island. Smashing the Supply Llama open will provide you with an abundance of resources, including a guaranteed boost in hp and many materials.
It is also important to understand, and pay attention to, the five different color rarities: the first is grey, referred to as, common. The second is green, which is uncommon. The third is blue, known as rare. The fourth is purple, titled, epic. And the last one is orange, which is called legendary. There are eight weapons under associated with the rarities that you know need to know in order to properly use them in the game. There is a singular long-range weapon, which is called Bolt Action Sniper Rifle, that causes significant damage, takes a few seconds to reload, and has one shot per clip. It’s a highly regarded weapon and is frequently used.
The next are mid-range weapons, including the Assault Rifle, the Burst Assault Rifle, and the RPG. The Assault Rifle is known for shooting fast and having a good range. The Burst Assault Rifle shoots bursts of three shots, with a slight delay in between. The RPG is used for mid-range for maximum effect and can destroy large structures whilst imposing splash damage on an opponent. It has one rocket per clip with a lengthy reload time.
Lastly, there are three short-range weapons. The tactical shotgun, that can create heavy damage if you are skilled at aim and precision. The Pump Shot Gun, which fires at a slower rate, but can also cause a great deal of damage with good use of precision and aim. The submachine gun, that is known for speed and effectiveness. Then, the Pistol, which you have to click quickly in order to shoot multiple times.
While having a decent weapon will benefit the player, making sure one uses the device with the utmost skill will further serve the avatar. So first, it is good to understand what the bloom system is. Without bloom, a player would be able to hit targets perfectly, because the bullet shots would be direct. So, in order to create more of a challenge and realistic feel to the game, the bloom system was implemented, meaning that there will be shots where the bullet can go completely astray.
The reticle on the screen will allow you to get a better sense of the bloom and encourages you to make more calculated decisions when shooting an opponent. To become skilled and improve your accuracy at shooting, you must train yourself to stand still, crouch down, center your aim, and finding a safe space in order to minimize bloom.
Now, you must be warned that since the game is incredibly fast pace, and you don’t have a clear idea as to where your enemy is located, it will be rather difficult to engage in the positioning. However, by consistently practicing the shooting method, you will soon be able to achieve the strategy and have a better chance of achieving victory royale.
Maintaining Health and Food Consumption
Make sure that you are aware of, and preserving your health. Each player has a maximum of 200 hp, which is health and shield. In order to maintain your health, you should eat fish (like a flopper fish, which provides a boost when being overtaken by a storm) and forage items, or using healing items. To keep up, and strengthen your shield, you should eat slurp fish, forged mushrooms, or drink shield potions (but make sure to drink them in an isolated setting because it takes a few seconds to consume, leaving you vulnerable to attacks).
Fornite campfires can provide you with a boost when your avatar’s health is low. There are 60 plus locations on the map that can assist you with finding campfires if you are in dire of need of a health boost. There are clusters specifically at the Sweaty Sands and Weeping Woods region.
Paying Attention to your Surroundings
It is essential that you consistently remain on guard of your surroundings in this game. There are frequent storms that plague the islands, which can ruin your chances of staying alive during the game. Also, there is a space circle to pay attention to. It forces the players to bunch together, in order to make the fight more intense. Also, take note of the compass. If there are red dots near one of the directional symbols, it means that there is a fight breaking out in that region, that you should most definitely avoid.
Rewatch The Match
When you are taking a test or quiz, it’s important to revise your work after the assessment has been graded. That way, you can learn from your mistakes, and improve on the next task. That same approach should be applied to Fortnite. As a beginner gamer, it is important to look at the mistakes you have made or to watch advanced players finish the games. So, if you were to be eliminated from the match, watch the playback on how you were killed. That way, you can devise a better strategy to avoid elimination and become a better gamer.
