Last Updated on November 27, 2023 10:01 pm by Erwin Noguera

A matchday of great games in the Premier League ended, and after 13 games, we have a new leader. Arsenal took advantage of the result at the Etihad Stadium between Manchester City and Liverpool to take the top spot.

The Gunners achieved a hard-fought victory against Brentford, while the Citizens and the Reds drew in the most important match in English soccer last weekend.

On the other hand, Newcastle did not give Chelsea a chance, achieving a resounding victory in front of their fans and getting closer to the positions that grant a place in international competitions.

Tottenham wasted what happened on the date and lost again at home, this time to Aston Villa, who overtook them in the standings.

Manchester City and Liverpool did not disappoint. Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead in 27 minutes with a cross-shot from Erling Haaland after Nathan Ake assisted him following a great individual play.

But in the 80th minute, Jürgen Klopp’s men equalized, thanks to a pass from Mohamed Salah to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who shot at the right post to beat Ederson on the edge of the area and make a new iconic celebration.

Was a game where Manchester was slightly superior, but the Reds fought and were rewarded. With this 1-1 draw, City lost the lead with 29 points, while Liverpool is one point behind in third place.

On the other hand, Erling Haaland scored his 50th goal in the Premier League and only needed 48 games, establishing a new record by breaking the previous one held by Andrew Cole, who needed 65.

Newcastle is a tough team at home, having thrashed Chelsea 4-1 and winning six out of seven games. This time they got the three points and reached 23 in the league, moving to seventh place.

Alexander Isak opened the account at 13′ after an assist in the area from Lewis Miley, but Raheem Sterling scored a free kick to equalize (23).

But in the second half, the Magpies retake the advantage with a header from Jamaal Lascelles after a cross from Anthony Gordon (60). Joelinton scored the third after a Blues’ mistake a minute later, and the 4-1 came at 83′ with an individual action by Gordon in the area.

Reece James was sent off after 73 minutes in a game that had 10 yellow cards.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side has only 16 points and has won one of their last five matches, falling behind in tenth place.

Arsenal had a difficult visit to the Community Stadium but overcame it with a 1-0 victory, so they now lead the Premier League with 30 points, one more than Manchester City.

The only goal of the match came in the 88th minute when Bukayo Saka sent a cross to the far post, where German Kai Havertz headed the ball home. Havertz, who had come on a few minutes earlier, has been widely criticized this season for the level he has shown after arriving from Chelsea and managed to score his first non-penalty goal this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side has only lost one game in the championship, while they have won nine times and drawn on three occasions, having the best defense (10).

For their part, the Bees have two defeats in a row and are in eleventh place with 16 points.

For the third consecutive match, Tottenham started winning, and for the third match in a row ended up losing. The Spurs did not respect their home and lost 2-1 to Aston Villa, which is now in fourth place.

The first goal came after 22 minutes, with a mid-range shot by Giovanni Lo Celso. However, at the end of the first half, Pau Torres made it 1-1 with a header, while in the second half, Ollie Watkins sealed the victory with a cross-shot to the right post (61).

The London side had many chances but failed to convert, thanks in part to the great performance of Argentine Dibu Martinez, who was the star of the match with six saves.

Unai Emery’s side are now qualifying for the next Champions League with 28 points, two more than Tottenham, who are fifth.
