After a fun weekend, the Italian Serie A has wrapped up the matchday 19, and it seems like most of the expected results were achieved, as Inter, Juventus, and Milan have all managed to continue their win streaks.
It was Fiorentina who gave, or in any case, took a big surprise this weekend, taking a loss against a team that they shouldn’t have struggled with.
With the top three teams doing so well this weekend, their opponents, the bottom 3 ones, were held down at the bottom of the scoreboard for at least another week.

Davide Frattesi scored in stoppage time to give Inter a 2-1 win against struggling Hellas Verona, who missed a penalty in the dying seconds. The first half produced few chances, with the visitors having two good opportunities, including Milan Djuric’s header well saved by Yann Sommer.
The ‘Nerazzurri’ broke the deadlock with their only shot on target of the half when Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s through ball found Lautaro Martinez, who stabbed the ball inside the box.
It was a similar story in the second half, although Simone Inzaghi’s side did put the ball in the back of the net courtesy of Martinez, but it was ruled out for offside.
In the 93rd minute, Alessandro Bastoni’s volley hit the bar following a corner, and Frattesi eventually tapped in the rebound to win the game. After Darko Lazovic was sent off for the visitors, they had the chance to equalize when they were awarded a penalty deep into added time after a foul by Matteo Darmian. Henry stepped up, but he hit the post.

Sassuolo capitalized on Andrea Pinamonti’s early goal in the ninth minute to get the victory, escape the threat of relegation, and frustrate Fiorentina (1-0,) who missed a penalty in the second half, thus putting their fourth place in danger.
Alessio Dionisi’s team had four defeats and a draw in their last five games. However, the year began with the match played in their field, the Mapei Stadium (Citta del Tricolore,) and a victory that distances them from the bottom.

After a scrappy start, the ‘Rossoneri’ eventually found their rhythm and took the lead when Rafael Leao’s brilliant run and pass found Ruben Loftus-Cheek, whose first-time effort inside the box found the bottom corner.
Stefano Pioli’s side made it two from the penalty spot after a VAR check spotted Youssef Maleh’s handball. Giroud stepped up and fired his spot kick in off the underside of the bar.
Both sides were forced to make injury substitutions before the break, with Filippo Ranocchia replacing Tyronne Ebuehi for the hosts and Alessandro Florenzi being replaced by Alejandro Jimenez.
Empoli had some decent opportunities to score in the second half, with Matteo Cancellieri’s effort parried and Francesco Caputo’s follow-up effort blocked. But Milan made it three late on when substitute Chaka Traore was put through on goal by Christian Pulisic and side-footed it past the keeper.

The hosts made Juventus pay for their blunt attacking display when Giulio Maggiore opened the scoring with a wonderful finish, showing swift feet to shift the ball onto his left foot before curling his effort past Wojciech Szczesny and into the far corner.
Weston McKennie spurned a good chance to bring Juventus level after the break before the game was turned on its head when Maggiore went from hero to villain, picking up a second yellow card early in the second half and reducing the hosts to 10 men.
Substitute Samuel Iling-Junior scored just his second senior goal to draw the sides level with a thrashing finish into the roof of the net before Vlahovic completed the comeback in the first minute of added time, thundering home a header from Danilo’s cross to snatch victory for the ‘Bianconeri’ against bottom-of-the-table Salernitana.
