Lions vs. Buccaneers: Divisional Round Preview

Last Updated on January 19, 2024 12:49 pm by Erwin Noguera

We have reached the defining phase of the 2023/24 NFL season, where there are fewer and fewer teams left alive in the fight for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in play at Super Bowl LVIII.

The Wild Cards were phenomenal from start to finish, and, as in every season, we had several surprises that left many fans and even NFL teams stunned. One of the biggest surprises was the victory of the Buccaneers against the Eagles because we all know that Philadelphia was one of the favorites to play the next Super Bowl. On the other hand, we cannot overlook the excellent victory of the Packers against the Cowboys because Dallas had an excellent regular season, and they looked to, at least, reach this round.

Now, the past is history, and the eight teams left alive will leave their skin in these Divisional Round games to try to take the victory and advance to the Conference Finals or Conference Championships.

One of the great games we will have will be when the Detroit Lions receive the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field in the clash for the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.

When and Where:

Sunday, January 21st, 3:00 pm ET at Ford Field

Moneyline odds:

Lions 1.38

Buccaneers 3.55

Why Bet on the Lions?

The Lions are coming off a thrilling 24-23 Wild Card win over the LA Rams, getting their first playoff win since 1991. Quarterback Jared Goff has Detroit playing inspired football, while the defense has taken a step forward recently.

In addition to playing the Super Bowl during his time with the Rams, the experienced quarterback is surrounded by great young potential. Similarly, the defense has again shown its strength after a period of weakness at the end of the regular season.

In the Game against the Rams, Goff had extraordinary numbers, with 22/27 passes completed for 277 yards and one touchdown pass. In addition, we had David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs combined for 82 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

The Lions got a good start against the Rams, holding a 21-17 halftime lead. Quarterback Jared Goff was efficient, spreading the ball out to receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds, while he also used running back Montgomery. The Lion’s defense was also strong in this game, containing the Ram’s offense led by Matthew Stafford.

Why Bet on the Buccaneers?

For their part, the Buccaneers dominated the Philadelphia Eagles 32-9 in the Wild Card round. Baker Mayfield was surgical as usual, passing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns against Philadelphia’s tough defense.

Tampa Bay’s defense has been just as impressive, holding opponents to 20 points or fewer in five straight games. Now, they’ll try to quell Detroit’s suddenly explosive offense.

Mayfield and the Bucs offense clicked on all cylinders, scoring 32 points, while the defense stifled Jalen Hurts and held the Eagles to just one touchdown. The Bucs jumped out to a 16-9 halftime lead and never looked back as they left the Eagles offense at 0 in 3 of the four quarters.

Final Betting Analysis: Lions vs. Buccaneers

This game has happened 61 times in the history of the NFL, and, at this time, we have the Lions lead the series with 32 wins. However, the Bucs remain close on 29 victories.

Similarly, it is worth noting that the most recent match between these two teams, on October 15th, 2023, ended with a victory for Detroit by 20-6.

At Gambyl Betting Exchange, we can see that there is a Moneyline that favors the Lions at 1.38, while the Buccaneers start at 3.55.

We expect history to repeat itself in this game for the Divisional Round, so, our prediction is a win for the Detroit Lions.

Look for a win on the Lions’ Moneyline. If you put $100 on the Lions at 1.38, you’ll see a $38.00 win with a total payout of $138.00.
