NFL Wild Card Roundup

Last Updated on January 16, 2024 4:40 pm by Erwin Noguera

The wild card round left three big surprises, thanks to the eliminations of the Cleveland Browns, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Dallas Cowboys.

The Browns were a toy for the Houston Texans, who were an offensive steamroller at home.

For their part, the Green Bay Packers offense was at a high level, so they could eliminate the Cowboys, who, in the regular season, finished as candidates for absolute glory.

The Kansas City Chiefs lived up to expectations, eliminating the Miami Dolphins in front of their home crowd.

In other games, the Cinderella history of the Lions continues, although they suffered a lot to get rid of the Rams, while the Bills had a quiet afternoon at work against the historic Steelers.

Based on their regular season performance, the Houston Texans did not start as favorites despite playing at home, but the victory was in their favor 45-14 over the Cleveland Browns.

The Texans had a great C.J. Stroud, who completed 16 of 21 passes, with 274 yards rushing and three touchdown passes. The team’s conversions came from Nico Collins, Brevin Jordan, Dalton Schultz, and Devin Singletary.

On the Cleveland side, Joe Flacco couldn’t show his experience and suffered two interceptions, so his 307 yards were useless. It is the first time that this quarterback has fallen in the wild-card round.

Now, Houston will have a tough matchup in the divisional round against the Baltimore Ravens, the best team in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs had left many doubts in the regular season, losing games that seemed winnable. But the postseason arrived and this team transformed, destroying the Miami Dolphins 26-7.

Patrick Mahomes did not shine especially, completing 23 of 41 passes and throwing for a touchdown, but Isiah Pacheco with a touchdown and Rashee Rice with another one solved the game. In addition, the reigning Super Bowl champions were in total control defensively.

The Dolphins were in debt, especially Tua Tagovailoa, who only threw one conversion pass.

NFL Wild Card: Cowboys 32-48 Packers

When and Where?

Sunday, January 14th, 4:30 pm ET at the AT&T Stadium

Moneyline odds:

Cowboys 1.26

Packers 3.94

The big surprise of the wild card was the Green Bay Packers, who offensively were at a top level and beat one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl, the Dallas Cowboys, 48-32.

Jordan Love grew at the home of Dallas and completed 16 of 21 passes with effectiveness, made his team travel 272 yards, and delivered three touchdown passes, while the ball was not intercepted on any occasion.

Dak Prescott did the opposite for the Cowboys, as he threw three touchdown passes to his teammates, but suffered two interceptions.

The Packers will now face the San Francisco 49ers for a place in the National Conference final.

NFL Wild Card: Lions 24-23 Rams

With some suffering, the Detroit Lions overcame the Los Angeles Rams 24-23 in an important performance by their quarterback Jared Goff, who finished with 22 of 27 successful passes, one assist for a touchdown, and 277 yards.

David Montgomery also stood out with 14 carries, and A.S. Brown with 110 yards rushing.

On the Rams’ side, the tactic of pressuring Goff did not work as well, while Matthew Stafford finished with 69% passing efficiency, 367 yards, and two touchdown assists.
