Brasileirão Matchday 24 – Roundup and Results

The 24th round of the Brasileirão started on Saturday (27/08) with 4 matches, 4 on Sunday (28/08), and will end on Monday (29/08) with 2 more matches.

The main highlights of the round were the wins of Fortaleza and Flamengo. Besides those games, we didn’t see any surprise or a big change in the positions of the league.

The biggest distinction was the triumph of Fortaleza by 1×0 against São Paulo at Morumbi stadium. Stands out with the excellent performance of the goalkeeper Fernando Miguel (Fortaleza).

Round 24 marked by 3 regional classics: Goiás 2×1 Atlético-GOBotafogo 0x1 Flamengo and América-MG 1×1 Atlético-MG.

Let’s take a closer look at each game to understand what happened in one more round of the Brasileirão 2022.

Brasileirão Matchday 24: Goiás 2×1 Atlético-GO

The opening game of the 24th round of the Brasileirão, the Clássico Olímpico, was very busy. We had goals, controversial plays, and expulsions from both sides. Goiás won the first stage with an own goal by William Klaus (Atletico-GO) at the minute 11’.

At 54’, already in the second half, Marquinhos Gabriel increased the score for GoiásAtlético decreased in the 84′ with Shaylon. Hayner (Atlético-GO) and Caio (Goiás) were sent out by red card. Goiás, now, took 10th place with 32 points and remains in the classification zone of the Copa SudamericanaAtlético-GO, on the other hand, continues to embitter the penultimate (19th) position with 22 points.

Brasileirão Matchday 24: Coritiba 1×0 Avaí

Another game opened the round on Saturday (27) and was worth leaving the relegation zone for both teams. Coritiba came out with 3 points and, with 25 points in 16th position, kept Avaí in the dangerous zone (18th) with 23 units. The winner of the match scored at the 79” in the second half with Fabricio Daniel. Now they can breathe after a few rounds in the red zone.

Brasileirão Matchday 24: Fluminense 1×1 Palmeiras

Still dreaming of the title, Fluminense hosted Palmeiras at Maracanã on Saturday night. Open game with opportunities for both sides, but it ended in a draw. 

The game was decided in the first half with a beautiful bicycle kick from Rony (Palmeiras) at 8’ and a tie after a header by Manoel at 38’.

Palmeiras remains firm in the fight for the title without giving up points to the main opponents and remains in 1st place, now with 50 units. Fluminense maintains the average and remains firmly in 3rd place with 42 points and holding its spot for the Copa Libertadores.

Brasileirão Matchday 24: Ceará 0x0 Athletico-PR

With a very important game next Tuesday for the Copa Libertadores against PalmeirasAthletico visited Ceará with an alternative team and got a 0-0 draw. 

With a good performance by the goalkeeper Athleticano, Ceará’s forwards were left frustrated despite the good opportunities created. Athletico has 39 points in 5th position, remaining in the pre-Libertadores so far. Ceará, on the other hand, moved one more point away from the relegation zone and has now 27 units. 

Brasileirão Matchday 24: São Paulo 0x1 Fortaleza

The most surprising game of the round only confirmed the great moment that Fortaleza is going through in this second leg of BrasileirãoFortaleza leads the return with 5 triumphs in 5 matches with 7 goals scored and no goals conceded.

The defensive phase was very well explained by the great phase of goalkeeper Fernando Miguel who, today, once again, performed miracles to guarantee a positive result away from home against São Paulo

The goal scored by Juninho Capixaba, at 32′ of the first half, gave the visitors 3 points, which, after suffering several rounds at the bottom of the table, already occupies the 12th position of the league, with 30 points.

After this dramatic defeat, São Paulo ended up in the 13th position, with 29 points.

Brasileirão Matchday 24: Other Results

América-MG 1×1 Atlético-MG

In the regional classic of Minas Gerais, the focus was to get closer to the classification zone of the Copa Libertadores, but the goalkeepers guaranteed the tie with important interventions. Everson for Atlético, defending a penalty taken by Henrique Almeida and Matheus Cavichioli, for América-MG, after a great save in a dangerous free kick.

The goals of the match were by Hulk (Atlético-MG) and Henrique Almeida (América-MG). Both teams had no change in standings. América-MG remains in 9th place with 32 points while Atlético-MG is close to pre-Libertadores with 36 points in 7th place.

Cuiabá 0x0 Santos

Cuiabá received Santos on Sunday night in a lukewarm game, without many emotions. But the result was worse than expected for Cuiabá, because, with the triumph of Coritiba against Avaí, the team from Mato Grosso entered the relegation zone with 25 points and is in 17th position. Santos, in the fight for the Libertadores zone, remains in 8th with 34 points.

Botafogo 0x1 Flamengo

Closing the games on Sunday in the 24th round, we had a busy game at the Engenhão Stadium. 

The state rivalry was decided with a goal by Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, taking advantage of Pedro’s good ball. 

Flamengo, with an important game in the middle of the next week against Vélez (ARG), for the Copa Libertadores, entered the field with team B and even so asserted its quality and left with a positive result. Flamengo is still alive in the fight for the Brasileirão with 43 points in 2nd place. Botafogo, with the defeat, remained in the same position (14th) with 27 points.
