Liga MX Matchday 6 Roundup and Results

Matchday 6 of the Liga MX opening tournament 2022-23 has ended, with many very encouraging results for some teams, such as Tigres, who won their fifth match in a row and thus took sole possession of the first place in the standings.

Other results that seem incredible were in the Pachuca and Puebla games, as it seems that they do have a non-aggression pact and continue to obtain the same results every matchday. Having said that, we must highlight that they have not been able to get out of the bad moment in which they find themselves and continue to lose positions in the general classification table.

Tijuana, with its third win in a row, has slipped into the top 4 of the tournament and, with a record of 3 wins, 1 draw, and 2 losses, is now very close to the fight for first place in the table.

Meanwhile, Monterrey and Toluca, after their draw on the last matchday, are tied for second place in the table with 13 points, only 2 points behind Tigres UANL.

Tigres UANL achieved their fifth consecutive victory, reaching 15 points and taking first place in the general classification table, taking advantage of the draw of their two main rivals at this point in the season, Toluca and Monterrey.

The match was intense from the very start, as at minute 19 Nicolás López scored Tigres’ first goal. Querétaro reacted quickly and, 6 minutes later, generated a penalty that was eventually converted into a goal by Ariel Nahuelpán.

The first half ended with Tigres attacking all Querétaro’s fronts, but no more goals could be scored.

The second half began in the same vein, and at minute 66 Jordy Caicedo scored the goal that gave his team the victory. It was a very physical match, as the Tigres players received two red cards, Jordy Caicedo and Juan Vigón, at minute 71 and 84, respectively. For Querétaro, David Cabrera was sent off at minute 90+3.

Result: Tigres UANL (2) – (1) Querétaro

As we predicted in our preview article for this match, Pachuca and Guadalajara did not hurt each other on the pitch and ended with a 0-0 draw.

The match was very evenly matched from the opening whistle, there was equality in all aspects and characteristics of the match, both in ball possession and shots on goal. Both teams lacked effectiveness at the time of finishing and could not beat the opponent’s goal.

After this draw, Pachuca continues to lose points and positions in the standings. Right now, Pachuca is in seventh place in the table, with its third draw in its last 4 games.

On the other hand, Guadalajara accumulated its 4th consecutive draw and is still without a win in this opening tournament. Currently, Chivas is ranked #14.

Result: Pachuca (0) – (0) Guadalajara

Liga MX Matchday 6: Santos Laguna vs. Atlas

Atlas seems to be sinking. It is not even the shadow of the two-time champion, as in the Opening Tournament 2022 it is at the bottom of the table.

The red-and-black team fell this Sunday in Matchday 6 against Santos Laguna by a score of 1-0, a defeat that makes it three matches in a row with an adverse result. Now, the current Liga MX champions are in 16th place with only four points, while Santos is in 10th place with 7 points.

The last straw for the red-and-black team was that their captain Aldo Rocha was injured in the 34th minute of action when he suffered a tear and had to leave the game.

Despite this, Atlas dominated practically the entire match but was unable to score a goal. Santos, on the other hand, managed to take advantage of the only dangerous play they had, and, at minute 59, after a pass from Diego Medina from the right flank, Juan Bruneta scored the definitive 1-0 to give the victory to La Comarca Lagunera.

Result: Santos Laguna (1) – (0) Atlas

In the second half, León took the lead again thanks to a goal by Osvaldo Rodríguez in the 66th minute, but Henry Martín equalized again in the 80th minute. However, just when everyone thought the match would end level, Ángel Mena scored León’s third and final goal at 90+15 minutes.
