Premier League Matchday 2 Roundup and Results

On August 15, the so-called best soccer league in the world, the Premier League, celebrated 30 years since its creation in 1992, when the most important teams in England joined forces to create this fantastic project.

At the end of the second day of the Premier League, we can say that almost everything started as we expected. With Manchester City leading the standings, equal on points with Arsenal, followed by the surprising Brentford, Tottenham, and Newcastle.

While in the last place on the general classification table we have Manchester United, a team that has not been able to find the formula that will help them change the terrible level of play they have had in the last few seasons.

We can also highlight the new draw of Liverpool, which surprisingly has not been able to get 3 points at the beginning of the season, although they have an extraordinary squad of players.

The most exciting match of matchday 2 did not disappoint. Chelsea and Tottenham gave us an extremely intense and exciting match that ended with a draw on the scoreboard and, something that rarely happens: coaches Tuchel and Conte almost came to blows at the end of the match.

The result, without a doubt, is of no use to either team, but, we, the fans, enjoyed this match from start to finish.

The first half was a real game for Chelsea, showing a spectacular level of play. The first goal came from a corner kick taken by Cucurella in the 19th minute and, on the rebound, Koulibaly volleyed in a very good goal.

The second half was different, Tottenham went on the attack and managed to equalize the score in the 69th minute thanks to Højbjerg’s goal. In the 77th minute, Reece James put Chelsea ahead after a very good assist from Sterling. Finally, Harry Kane equalized the match at 2-2 in the 95th minute.

The renewed Arsenal is a real cannon at the beginning of the season. Thanks to the new addition of Gabriel Jesus, the Gunners have raised their level of play so much that they are now considered serious candidates for this season’s champions trophy in the Premier League.

Arsenal started winning thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ goal in the 23rd minute. From this point on, they had total control of the match and, 12 minutes later, the Brazilian scored the second goal of the game.

At the start of the second half, Leicester City got closer on the scoreboard thanks to William Saliba’s own goal, but, 2 minutes later Arsenal responded through Xhaka to make the score 3-1.

In the 74th minute, Leicester City got back on the scoreboard thanks to James Maddison, but Arteta’s team hit back in the 75th minute through Gabriel Martinelli.

Premier League Matchday 2: Manchester City vs. Bournemouth

Moneyline odds: Manchester City -1492 / Bournemouth +3500 (Source: MyBookie.ag)

Draw Offs: +1075

City’s rivals will have their work cut out for them in this new Premier League season. The reigning champions, winners in four of the last five tournaments, proved their potency by thrashing newly-promoted Bournemouth with goals from Gündogan, De Bruyne, and Foden. Haaland failed to score after his brace on an opening day, although the Norwegian set up the first with his assist.

Manchester City practically had the second 45 minutes to spare after a blistering first half in which they made the difference right from the start. Pep Guardiola’s team came out like a hurricane on the pitch and little by little the goals were rewarding their game until they went to the break with a clear 3-0 lead.

First, it was Gündogan who took advantage of a good assist from Haaland to open the scoring in the 19th minute. Then, in the 31st minute, de Bruyne made it 2-0 and in the 37th minute, Foden scored the third goal for the Citizens.

From this moment on, the match was a routine one for City and, after generating dangerous situations in the second half, they led to Jefferson Lerma’s own goal in the 79th minute.

Result: Manchester City (4) – (0) Bournemouth

Premier League Matchday 2: Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace

When: Saturday, August 13 at 10:30 am ET

Moneyline odds: Liverpool -480 / Crystal Palace +1275 (Source: MyBookie.ag)

Draw Offs: +570

Finally, Liverpool played a very important match on matchday 2 against an opponent that, in theory, was inferior to them, Crystal Palace. What looked like it was going to be an easy game for the Reds, turned into a nightmare that ended with a 1-1 draw.

The first half of this match was completely misleading, Liverpool had control of the match and generated many scoring chances, but, they did not have the necessary effectiveness to open the score. On the contrary, Crystal Palace took advantage of an opportunity in the 32nd minute and went up on the scoreboard thanks to Wilfried Zaha’s goal.

The second half started with Darwin Nuñez being sent off with a straight red card in the 57th minute, but this sparked Liverpool’s emotions, and they ended up equalizing the score 1-1 just 4 minutes later.

After this draw, Liverpool is placed twelfth with two points and Crystal Palace sixteenth with one. By the way, Crystal Palace breaks the streak of ten consecutive defeats they had against Liverpool. The team coached by Klopp will face Manchester United at Old Trafford next matchday in an encounter between two needy teams. Although the Reds look much stronger, with so many injuries the ghosts of the 20/21 season are lurking again, especially with City looking soo good.

Result: Liverpool (1) – (1) Crystal Palace
