UFC 273: Alexander Volkanovski vs. Chan Sung Jung

Why Bet on Alexander Volkanovski

Volkanovski is currently at the pinnacle of the sport.

Mendes, Aldo, Holloway, and Ortega is an extraordinary winning run and he is already in the discussion for the greatest featherweight of all time.

His striking is crisp, his engine is incredible and his ground and pound look horrendous to be on the end of.

He always looks comfortable wherever the fight goes, and his toughness and grit are also absurd, and you can ask Brian Ortega for confirmation.

Why Bet on Chan Sung Jung

Every time the Korean Zombie steps in the cage you feel you’re going to watch a fight-of-the-year contender.

No nonsense, he always brings it and is as laidback as you can expect a professional fighter to be.

So it’s great to see him back with a title shot nine years after his first crack.

His chin is ridiculous and he doesn’t respond to getting punched like a human being.

He’s a calculated counter-puncher, and as much as he does like to take the center of the cage, he’s also patient, even though he’s more than happy to mix it up.

The Zombie has real punching power and he’s dangerous on the floor, capable of throwing up an array of submissions.

Final Betting Analysis: Volkanovski vs. Chan Sung Jung

To win the match, the Korean Zombie needs Volkanovski to fight and act uncharacteristically.

He needs to push up against the fence, make him load up with single shots, and break his usual rhythm.

It is a long shot, at the very least, but one can see the Zombie having success early, and do not expect him to get KOed out cold early.

Our betting token is placed on Volkanovski to dominate around the mid-point of the fight and even stop bloody Zombie late, after a brave effort.

UFC 273: Aljamain Sterling vs. Petr Yan

Why Bet on Aljamain Sterling

Aljamain learned in the last fight that he can have success with some of his more unpredictable attacks, such as his flying knee.

Perhaps the more valuable lesson will be that he can’t blitz Yan and sustain it.

It is likely a pace that he can’t keep going, so he knows he needs to be more efficient and smarter.

Why Bet on Petr Yan

One of the big takeaways for Yan will be that he felt Aljo wilting in the last fight.

At the end of the fight, he was very comfortable and completely in control.

The fight was only going one way, which makes the outcome even more bizarre.

The fact that Yan followed up that disappointment with his performance against Corey Sandhagen shows he is still the No 1 in the division, regardless of who walks into the cage second on Saturday night.

Final Betting Analysis: Sterling vs. Yan:

Their first fight a year ago ended with Yan being disqualified for an illegal knee.

Aljamain threw the belt on the floor before leaving the cage, but since then he has embraced being the champ.

Aljamain has not been in a fight since their previous meeting, and handling Petr Jan, is a big ask, and as skilled as Sterling is, our betting token is backed up by the idea that he doesn’t have enough to hang in there with Yan for 25 minutes.

UFC 273: Gilbert Burns vs. Khamzat Chimaev

Why Bet on Gilbert Burns

As a multiple-time jiu-jitsu champion, Burns is as dangerous as they come on the ground.

He has real power in his punches too, with a variety in his strikes, and with the constant threat of the takedown, he knows how to keep his opponents guessing.

Why Bet on Khamzat Chimaev

No one has ever made getting wins in the UFC look easier than Khamzat Chimaev.

He hasn’t suffered a scratch in his four fights, and they have been utter domination.

This is still a massive step up for Khamzat, as his last opponent, Li Jingliang is a tough fighter, but he’s not on the same level as Gilbert Burns.

Final Betting Analysis: Burns vs. Chimaev

Khamzat’s ground game is so suffocating that he might back himself to take it to the floor without fear of what Burns can come back with.

This could be a mistake, as to make just one error with Burns means that he can finish the fight.

Size could well matter in this one too, as Burns wasn’t a huge lightweight before moving up to 170lbs.

Meanwhile, Khamzat is massive at welterweight and has made it clear that he will end up at light-heavyweight.

Burns could be able to weather the storm, use his experience to drag the fight out, and find some openings, but our token is placed on “Borz”, as we expect him to back up all the hype behind him.

UFC 273: Mackenzie Dern vs. Tecia Torres

Why Bet on Mackenzie Dern

The 29-year-old was born in the USA but her father is from Brazil, and she’s 11-2 in a pro career dating to 2016.

Dern is a former gold medalist in the World Jiu-Jitsu Championships.

Dern is yet to get a title shot in the UFC and needs to bounce back to get on track for it.

She is coming in off a unanimous decision loss to underdog Marina Rodriguez in October to see a four-fight winning streak snapped.

Why Bet on Tecia Torres

The 32-year-old is 13-5 in a professional career that began in 2012.

After losing four straight fights from 2018 through ’19, the “Tiny Tornado” (she is 5-foot-1) has won three straight.

She was last in the Octagon in August and beat Angela Hill by unanimous decision, and she had beaten Hill early in her UFC career in 2015.

Final Betting Analysis: Dern vs. Torres

For this match-up, we are expecting Mackenzie Dern to step up her game, by either showing improved striking or having focused on her wrestling to take the fight to the ground with ease.

If she can manage to take the fight to the ground, likely, she will either dominate her way to a decision victory or finish Torres halfway through the fight.

UFC 273: Vinc Pichel vs. Mark Madsen

Why Bet on Vinc Pichel

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 15 alum, Vinc Pichel (14-2), had a rather ignominious UFC start courtesy of Rustam Khabilov launching him into oblivion in his debut.

He’s now won seven of his last eight, the lone loss coming to Gregor Gillespie in 2018.

Why Bet on Mark Madsen

The Octagon debut for Mark Madsen (11-0) was everything the Danish crowd wanted, smashing Danilo Belluardo into submission just 72 seconds into the fight.

He wasn’t quite as dominant his next two times out but emerged victorious against both Austin Hubbard and Clay Guida.

Final Betting Analysis: Pichel vs. Madsen

Though a solid win, Madsen’s fight with Guida showed how limited his game remains at 37 years old.

It’s not enough to make his vaunted wrestling consistently effective at the highest level and it’s not enough to carry him past Pichel.

That’s because “From Hell” gets stronger as fights progress, has better hands, and offers the same sort of thudding low kicks that Guida used to great effect.

Our betting token is placed on Vinc Pichel to take the victory in this fight.

Volkanovski vs. Chan Sung Jung Betting Pick: Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski

Sterling vs. Yan Betting Pick: Petr “No Mercy” Yan

Burns vs. Chimaev Betting Pick: Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev

Dern vs. Torres France Betting Pick: Mackenzie Dern

Pichel vs. Madsen Betting Pick: Vinc “From Hell” Pitchel
