African Cup Quarterfinals: Cape Verde vs. South Africa Preview

Last Updated on January 31, 2024 12:59 pm by Erwin Noguera

The African Cup of Nations goes from the round of 16 to the quarterfinals, where the eight best teams face, with some surprising inclusions. That’s precisely the case of Cape Verde and South Africa, who got here after surpassing pretty strong opposition.

The team from the archipelago came undefeated with a draw and two victories as the leader in group B before making short work of Mauritania in the round of 16.

The Bafana Bafana came from the 2nd spot in Group E after a win, a loss, and a draw. However, they got over none other than Morocco to reach this stage.

Now, both teams take face to determine who will clash with the winner between Nigeria and Angola in the upcoming Semifinals.

Why bet on Cape Verde?

Buoyed by a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mauritania, Cape Verde aims to give its fans yet another reason to celebrate when they take on South Africa in the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals.

The Blue Sharks have been producing fine performances at the showpiece tournament, and with no fresh injury worries to report, they are slim favorites. One of the men to watch in the home team will be Karagumruk forward Ryan Mendes, who sealed the victory against Mauritania.

This team has, historically, filled its lines with players experienced in Portuguese football. However, most of their current squad plays in leagues from the second and third levels.

Why bet on South Africa?

The Bafana Bafana, meanwhile, did well to shock Morocco in the last 16. However, it has to be noted that Achraf Hakimi failed to convert a penalty in the dying minutes of the match. For many, it was just another case of a bottling job by the Maghrebies who, historically, don’t do well in the African Cup of Nations.

However, they have managed to make their way without too much trouble, and they are eager to get on the field and show their strength.

Experienced South Africa tactician Hugo Broos is unlikely to make changes to the team that defeated the Atlas Lions in the round of 16.

Cape Verde vs. South Africa Final Betting Analysis:

In the last twenty years, these teams played four times. Two wins went to the Islanders, while one went to the team from the Buena Esperanza cape, and the other ended in a draw. There’s not much of a history to take into account between the two.

What it’s clear, is that, taking out the shocking win of South Africa in the last round, Cape Verde seems like a most solid and cohesive project. We believe it’ll be another tight match, where the Blue Sharks will impose a 1-0.

Go for a victory for Cape Verde at 2.69. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $169 for a total payout of $269.
