The eight qualified teams to the Liga Betplay Dimayor 2024-I Quadrangulares have been defined. Now, there is only one more stage left before the two finalists searching for the star of the first half of 2024 are known.

Liga Betplay Dimayor Top Contenders

First, we must talk about the two best teams in Colombian soccer: Atlético Bucaramanga and Deportes Tolima.

The Leopardo has made a splash this semester under Venezuelan coach Rafael Dudamel, who based his work on his team’s good defensive performance (10 goals conceded). For their part, the Pijaos have become accustomed to qualifying in the best places in the round-robin competition. This time, they finished with 38 points with 11 wins, five draws, and three losses.

On the other hand, Deportivo Pereira climbed to third place as a result of Santa Fe’s defeat. The Cardenal was followed by La Equidad, Millonarios, Junior, and Once Caldas, who had not qualified for five years.

The Tiburón, the current champion, tends to improve its performance at this stage andshould also be watched closely.

Tournament format

The quadrangular system divides the eight clubs into two groups of four, where all teams will play six games, three at home and three away. Each zone will have a qualified team for the final: the club with the highest number of points.

It’s notable that Tolima and Bucaramanga, occupying the first two places, have what is called the invisible point, which indicates that in case of a tie, they have the sporting advantage to keep the best position.

Group A has Bucaramanga, Pereira, Millonarios, and Junior. Group B has Tolima, Santa Fe, La Equidad, and Once Caldas.

Deportivo Pereira is a tough team that relies on its offensive capacity, especially, on what Carlos Darwin Quintero, who finished the first phase with eight goals, can do. The Matecaña has the problem that they are not a good local team since they have not won their last three matches at the Hernán Ramírez Villegas stadium.

Atlético Bucaramanga achieved the unthinkable: it finished top of the round-robin with 38 points, thus having the sporting advantage of the invisible point. The Leopardo was the best defense of the championship, with only ten goals against. It was the third-best away team, with 15 points.

Junior is not going through its best moment. In the league, they have won only one of their last five games and have the “problem” of having the Copa Libertadores in their sights. The Tiburón is the current champion and has a goal scorer who grows in these stages like Carlos Bacca but has to recover very important players with injuries like José Enamorado and Deiber Caicedo.

Millonarios finished sixth with 31 points in the first phase and has six wins in a row, so it is probably the team that arrives with the best rhythm in Group A. The Embajadores does not usually fare well in Barranquilla but has won two of the last five at the Metropolitano. Like their opponents, they have to face the Copa Libertadores.

Junior vs. Millonarios Betting Pick: Junior

Santa Fe is coming off a 1-0 loss to Jaguares, but this does not take away from the fact that they had a good season in the first round, with 34 total points. The Cardenal is an excellent home team, scoring 20 points at El Campín, where they only lost once. Hugo Rodallega is their best scorer with nine.

Tolima finished second with 38 points, but just like their rivals, they ended the round-robin phase with a 3-1 away loss (vs. Atlético Nacional). The Pijao has the best offense, being the only team with more than 30 goals (31). Yeison Guzmán, who has eight goals and three assists, is the one to watch out for.

Santa Fe vs. Tolima Betting Pick: Santa Fe

Liga Betplay Dimayor 2024-I – Quadrangular Matchday 1: Once Caldas vs. La Equidad

When and Where?

Sunday, May 5, 8:30 pm ET at the Estadio Palogrande

After five long years, Caldas got back into the second round of the Colombian League. It finished with 29 points and a bad streak of four games without a win. However, it has a distinctive attacker in Dayro Moreno, who has scored eight goals so far. They have taken only one of the last six points at home.

La Equidad is an ironclad team, based on working the defense, as evidenced by the fact that in 18 matches, they only conceded 14 goals. However, it must be said that they have a very interesting player in attack, such as the creative Johan Rojas, who has six assists for the Liga Betplay Dimayor 2024-I. The Aseguradores are good visitors, with 15 points in nine presentations.

Once Caldas vs. La Equidad Betting Pick: La Equidad
