CONCACAF Champions Cup: Quarterfinals First leg Preview

Last Updated on March 29, 2024 2:28 pm by Erwin Noguera

While awaiting Lionel Messi’s condition, Inter Miami will have one of the most challenging series in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Monterrey, the current leader of Mexican soccer.

On the other hand, the current MLS champion, Columbus Crew, will have to face Tigres, and América will visit the New England Revolution.

The surprise of the tournament, Herediano, will host one of Concacaf’s most powerful attacking teams, Pachuca.

The current MLS champion has a heavy opponent like Tigres, but Columbus Crew’s faith is in a player who stands above the rest, Colombian striker Juan Camilo ‘El Cucho’ Hernández. In the previous round, they eliminated another team from the United States, Houston Dynamo, with an aggregate of 2-1.

Tigres is one of the top candidates to become champion, as they did in 2020. They have already eliminated Vancouver Whitecaps and Orlando City, so they have been able to make a difference against MLS teams. So far, they have conceded three goals in four games and scored eight. Frenchman André-Pierre Gignac has two goals and is the top scorer of the team.

Columbus Crew vs. Tigres Betting Pick: Tigres

CONCACAF Champions Cup: New England Revolution vs. América

New England Revolution 3.10

América 2.10

The New England Revolution did not sweat much to eliminate Independiente of Panama with a 4-0 aggregate win, and neither did when they beat Costa Rica’s Alajuelense 5-1. It is clear that the MLS team has an enormous offensive power, and Argentinean Tomas Chancalay is the face of this forward line, scoring four goals.

América is, for many, the favorite to be champion. It is the current Mexican king, is fighting high in the current edition of Liga MX, eliminated Real Estelí with some hesitation, and in the round of 16, it defeated its great rival, Chivas de Guadalajara. They have eight goals scored, with Julián Quiñones and Alejandro Zendejas being their best exponents in this area, with two goals each.

Without knowing if Lionel Messi will be present, Inter Miami will be pinning their hopes in the first leg on what Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba can do. It is clear that the Argentine is the cornerstone of the project, and without him, they have faltered this season. In the last round, they eliminated Nashville 5-3 on aggregate. Undoubtedly, this series can determine if they are a serious contender.

Monterrey is the current leader of Liga MX and has been very convincing so far in the Concacaf Champions Cup. They knocked Comunicaciones 7-1 and Cincinnati 3-1 out of the tournament. Rayados has counted on Brandon Vásquez as the star player in the competition, scoring three goals. They are one of the great candidates.

Inter Miami vs. Monterrey Betting Pick: Monterrey

CONCACAF Champions Cup: Herediano vs. Pachuca

When and Where?

Wednesday, April 3, 10:00 pm ET at the National Stadium Of Costa Rica

Moneyline odds:

Herediano 2.60

Pachuca 2.40

Draw Offs

3.30

Where can I watch it?

FOX and Univisión

Herediano is one of the surprises of the international competition, as it eliminated a heavyweight like Toluca and then was able to take out Robinhood. It has been a great visitor, as it won in Mexico and drew at the Surinam team’s home, but in Costa Rica, it lost one match and won the other. Mexican Adrian Garza is their best scorer with two goals.

Pachuca is a team with enormous offensive power, as they showed in their 6-0 thrashing of the Philadelphia Union. So far, it is the biggest difference in a match in this edition. Venezuelan Salomón Rondón scored three of those six goals. However, in the Mexican league, they have started to drop their level and have already lost two consecutive games.

Herediano vs. Pachuca FC Betting Pick: Pachuca
