We are wrapping up the matchday 12 of the Premier League, which means that we have gone over a third of the season already, and the excitement just keeps ramping up.

Manchester City may have drawn in their last match, but it was enough to keep themselves a point ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal, who did manage to climb up over Tottenham.

After the last few matchdays, the scoreboards have been shaking over and over, from a strong leader being dethroned, to the gaps being closed, and of course, the bottom teams keeping themselves at the bottom.

Below, are going to break down what took place in the 12th round of the Premier League.

Wolverhampton scored twice in added time to beat Tottenham 2-1 on Saturday, handing Spurs back-to-back defeats for the first time this season. Mario Lemina scored in the 97th minute after Pablo Sarabia equalized the score six minutes earlier at the Molineux stadium.

The visitors took the lead through Brennan Johnson’s goal after just three minutes and were set to retake first place from Manchester City. Instead, new coach Ange Postecoglou’s team remained one point behind the defending champions after going unbeaten in the first 10 games of the season.

Late Wolves goals sparked wild scenes that saw Spurs drop to fourth place at the end of the weekend.

The Londoners got back to winning ways by seeing off a stubborn Burnley 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium to move level on points with Liverpool in second place.

They controversially lost 1-0 at Newcastle United last time out but had no such problems on Saturday afternoon, easing to victory, albeit after being made to work hard for the win. 

And even though Josh Brownhill’s deflected 54th-minute shot brought the Clarets level against the run of play, William Saliba headed the hosts back in front just three minutes and 39 seconds later.

The returning Oleksandr Zinchenko added a spectacular third with 16 minutes to go and despite substitute Fabio Vieira’s late red card – which Gunners boss Mikel Arteta later applauded – Arsenal held on for the win that lifted them above north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and into the third spot in the table.

Cole Palmer came back to haunt his former club as he scored a 95th-minute penalty for Chelsea in a 4-4 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Palmer was excellent here and so was another former City player, Raheem Sterling, who had scored for 2-1 at a point towards the end of the first half that came to feel like a lifetime ago. City thought they had nicked it when Rodri watched an 86th‑minute shot deflect savagely off Thiago Silva and fly into the opposite corner.

Erling Haaland scored two more to make it 49 in 47 league appearances for City, Manuel Akanji got the other and it looked set to be a tale of heartbreak for Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea. The manager was close to combusting on several occasions, driven to distraction by the decisions of the referee, Anthony Taylor – a perennial villain in these parts. Pochettino boiled over spectacularly upon the full-time whistle, feeling there had been a big foul on Sterling by the City substitute Mateo Kovacic moments before it.

But, after Rúben Dias had dived in on another substitute, Armando Broja, to concede the last-gasp penalty, it was over to Palmer to put himself at the center of the story. His goal celebration was muted, to say the least – in stark contrast to the mayhem breaking out around him.
