Team Overview
The Jets are looking to climb out of a 3-14 finish in 2025, one of the worst seasons in franchise history, though head coach Aaron Glenn was retained for year two, the only team with a top-five pick to keep its coach. New York fired both coordinators, brought in Frank Reich to run the offense, traded quarterback Justin Fields to Kansas City, and acquired veteran Geno Smith from Las Vegas to lead a rebuild that was already fueled by shocking in-season trades of All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams for a haul of premium draft capital.
With that draft capital reinvested into the roster over the offseason, the Jets enter 2026 hoping for real progress under Glenn, even as the betting market still pegs them near the bottom of the AFC East.
Offensive Line Analysis
New York’s offensive line is the roster’s clear strength, returning four of five starters from a unit that used the same combination in every game last season for the first time since 2012. Left tackle Olu Fashanu and right tackle Armand Membou, both former first-round picks, bookend a group that also includes recently-extended right guard Joe Tippmann, with free-agent addition Dylan Parham stepping in at left guard to replace John Simpson.
Defensive Line Analysis
The Jets’ defense was gutted at the 2025 trade deadline when Gardner and Quinnen Williams were both dealt away, leaving defensive tackle Mazi Smith, acquired in the Williams trade, to anchor the interior in 2026. New York used part of its draft windfall on edge rusher David Bailey in the first round and added free agents Joseph Ossai and Kingsley Enagbare to speed up the rebuild, though it’s still very much a unit in transition.

The Titans are now coached by Robert Saleh, who ran the Jets from 2021 to 2024, adding a natural storyline to the lowest-scoring matchup on the Week 1 board.
Two teams that finished among the league’s worst in scoring last season open against each other, and neither offense is expected to change that trend in Week 1.
