Last Updated on October 31, 2022 3:01 pm by Erwin Noguera

We have reached the sixth and final matchday of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, the most important soccer club tournament in the world, where we have almost everything defined, there are very few places available in the party of the round of 16 and the teams that still have a chance to take them, will go out to play the game of their lives in this midweek matchday.

One of the surprises and/or disappointments of this Champions League group stage have been the Spanish teams, as, out of the 4 participants, only Real Madrid managed to qualify for the round of 16. Leaving Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona and Sevilla eliminated from this tournament and now thinking about what will be their path in the Europa League.

Chelsea managed, against many predictions, to qualify for the next round of this Champions League and, now will look for a victory against Dynamo Zagreb to try to secure first place in their group.

Milan needs a win against Salzburg to seal their ticket to the round of 16. While Atlético Madrid will be playing in Porto for its chances of qualifying for the Europa League, as it is not even sure of third place in its group.

Atlético Madrid continues its terrible run in important matches and, showing a very low level of play in recent weeks. Not only has their Champions League form suffered, but after their draw against Leverkusen at home the previous matchday, they were unable to beat one of the weakest LaLiga Santander teams on Saturday, Cadiz, who defeated them with a decisive 3-2 scoreline.

Atlético Madrid will likely qualify for the Europa League, as they have two results to do so. If they win, they will automatically obtain a ticket to this tournament, while if Leverkusen loses against Club Brugge, they will also achieve the task.

On the other hand, we have Porto, a team that arrives at this matchday 6 of the Champions League group stage with a very good winning streak of 3, which has helped them to get the pass to the round of 16 of the competition.

Porto needs the support of their fans at home to get a victory that will allow them, in case Brugge loses or draws against Leverkusen, to take first place in their group and thus have a less complicated crossing in the next stage of the tournament.

Atlético averages 0.8 goals per game in this Champions League, an extremely poor result but not weird, considering their defensive approach. However, their defense has not been as solid as in previous years, with Josema Jimenez, Oblak, and others in a bad stint of form. Porto is a much more aggressive team, that averages 1.6 goals per game and has scored 4 and 3, respectively, in its last 2 games, coming from thrashing the surprise leader of the group: Brugge.

The odds, however, mark a slim favoritism towards the Portuguese with +155, contrary to the +178 of the team from Madrid. We should expect a close game, with Porto on the onslaught and Atlético trying to be tidy at the back, so we go for a draw.

Porto vs. Atlético Madrid Betting Pick: Draw

Champions League Group Stage Matchday 6 – Group Stage – Preview – Liverpool vs. Napoli – Info

For this match, although nothing specific is at stake since both teams are qualified for the round of 16 and Napoli already secured the first place in the group, we can see if Liverpool will be the team that manages to take away Napoli’s unbeaten record this season since they are the only team in this Champions League that has not lost in all the competitions they are playing.

Napoli arrives at Anfield with the mission to continue their winning ways. They know that it is one of the most complicated stadiums in the world to play in, but with the excellent level of play they have shown, anything is possible. Il Partenopei comes into this match with a tremendous drive after a stupendous thrashing of Sassuolo in Serie A, with a score of 4-0.

On the other hand, we have Liverpool, one of the best teams in the world who, after a slow start to the season, seem to have straightened things out, at least in the Champions League, as they are unexpectedly in ninth place in the Premier League, with only 16 points out of a possible 36 and already 15 from the top.

Liverpool comes into this game after being shocked at Anfield by Leeds, so they need a win to help their fans regain faith in their team.

Both teams’ form is miles apart at the moment, but their numbers aren’t so different in the Champions League, where we could say that, after the first matchday, Liverpool has been a different team. The Reds average 3 goals per game, similar to the 4 goals Napoli averages per match, alternating between a possession game and leaving the ball to their rivals to attack the counter.

Considering the odds, Liverpool has a great favoritism of -127, showing that even the bookmarkers keep believing in the Anfield magic, contrary to the +300 Napoli has. Seeing what happened with Leeds, we can see this match as a chance to get good value out of an underdog, however, we prefer to stick with the Reds.

Champions League Group Stage Matchday 6 – Group Stage – Preview – Juventus vs. PSG – Info

When:

Wednesday, November 02 at 04:00 pm ET at the Juventus Stadium

Moneyline odds:

PSG -144

Juventus +360

+310

Even though this match between Juventus and PSG will not be played in the scenario we all expected, that of the fight for first place in Group H, both come to this match with the firm conviction of achieving a victory that will help them achieve the only objectives they can fulfill for now. PSG to stay at the top of the group, while Juventus to secure their place in the next Europa League.

Juventus comes from losing in the fifth round of the Champions League with a score of 4-3 against Benfica in Portugal and only won one game of the five they played in this group stage, so, it is urgent to win if they want to play, even if it is the UEFA Europa League.

Juventus must try to transfer the good moment they are experiencing in the Italian Serie A to the European competitions, to achieve victories that will allow them to recover the identity of a winning and powerful team, as they have been throughout their history.

On the other hand, we have PSG, a team that is completely inspired this season and that has only one goal, to be champions of the UEFA Champions League. The current level of the offensive trident of PSG, Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé is amazing, in every game they show that they are more connected than ever and that this season is the year they will be crowned champions.

Likewise, PSG has to work on its defensive aspect to achieve this task. While they are the most fearsome offense in the world, their defense has left much to be desired, looking fragile at moments even in front of teams like Maccabi Haifa, and they need to strengthen it to face powerful teams in the next stages of the Champions League.

The offensive aspect of PSG is shown clearly in their goalscoring record with a total of 14 goals, being the third team with the best goal average in five matches in this group stage. Juventus’ form, on the other hand, has been dreadful in all departments and they have 8 goals in total, not so bad in 5 games, but having 11 goals against is not enough.

Their main sources of creativity on the flanks are Di Maria and Chiesa, both injured, leaving the team to improvise with a midfield trio in front of a defense of three that has been terrible in this Champions League.

Their leaky defense made them suffer one of the biggest humiliations in their Champions League history against Maccabi and will lead them to suffer a lot in front of PSG’s deadly trio. So, as the odds of +360 for the locals and -144 for the visitors’ show, they are going to lose.
