Brasileirão Matchday 1 Roundup

Last Updated on April 15, 2024 5:16 pm by Erwin Noguera

The Brasileirão began and in the most attractive match due to the hierarchy and history of both clubs, Corinthians vs. Atlético Mineiro, disappointed with a goalless draw.

Palmeiras, reigning Série A champions, did not fare so well in their visit to Vitória, but it was enough to overcome their opponents and show that their best feature is their defense.

Athletico Paranaense, playing in front of their home crowd, destroyed Cuiabá 4-0, while Internacional, looking for redemption after a bad 2023, came from behind at home against Bahia.

After a decidedly poor season in 2023, Internacional de Porto Alegre kicked off their Brazilian campaign with a 2-1 home win over Bahia.

The visitors took the lead in the 70th minute with a goal by Biel, but two minutes later, Wesley Ribeiro responded by taking advantage of a lapse in concentration by the defense and scoring the equalizer with a cross-shot. Fernando turned the score around with a header at 83′.

The team coached by the Argentine Eduardo “El Chacho” Coudet has three points, and its next rival will be Palmeiras. Bahía will face Fluminense.

Athletico Paranaense was convincing in its opening match against Cuiabá and thrashed them 4-0, showing that it wants to be Brazilian champion this year.

Between 23 and 39 minutes, the Furacao scored three goals. The first one came from Pablo with a shot that deflected off the rival defense, then the Uruguayan midfielder Agustín Canobbio scored after a pass in the area by the veteran midfielder Fernandinho, and the third one was scored by the Argentine Leonardo Godoy with a cross-shot. Uruguayan striker Gonzalo Mastriani (82′) closed the scoreboard with a header.

This was the only game of the first matchday of the Brasileirao that ended with a goal difference greater than one. Paranaense’s next match will be against Grêmio, and Cuiabá will face Vitória in a duel of losers.

The first matchday had a really good game between Corinthians and Atlético Mineiro, but that was what we thought. The final result was a disappointing 0-0.

It was a match without many scoring options, where the Timao had only two shots on goal and the Galo three. Most importantly, Mineiro lost Argentine midfielder Rodrigo Battaglia after he received two yellow cards in the first half.

Corinthians will play Juventude next matchday, and the Galo will play newly promoted Criciúma.

More was expected of them, but the reigning champions of the Brasileirão, Palmeiras, got off to a good start in the league with a 1-0 away win over Vitória.

The goal scored by Colombian midfielder Richard Ríos came in the 20th minute when striker Rony held back the defender’s mark and set up his teammate, who controlled the ball and shot with his right foot to inflate the net. This goal was enough for the Verdao to get the three points in their intention of defending the title.

For the next matchday, Palmeiras plays at home against Internacional, and Vitória will be away against Cuiabá.
