MLS Matchday 4 Roundup

Last Updated on March 18, 2024 3:46 pm by Erwin Noguera

After the matchday 4 of the MLS wrapped up, we looked at the top of the scoreboards, and between both conferences, there are three teams who are currently at 10 points in total.

That means the fight on one side is contested, while the other conference has a team with clear control of the top. And things couldn’t be more exciting as that makes all the other teams close behind eager to catch up to them.

With exciting ups and downs for some teams, we have to take the time to start breaking down what took place during this last matchday of the MLS regular Season.

The DC United vs Inter Miami match started strong, as DC United decided to give their opponents a hard welcome. The hosts scored the first goal when Jared Stroud went all out in the 14th minute, but things backfired when Leonardo Campana got back at them in the 24th minute.

Things went back and forth for most of the match, even on the fouls, landing DC United five yellow cards and three for Miami. However, Luis Suarez decided to settle things in the 72nd minute, scoring again to give Inter the Lead.

Nevertheless, he was not finished yet and landed his second 13 minutes later, giving the team a 1-3 score to finish upon. We’d like to say there was more action a few minutes later, but we only got Pedro Santos’ red card incident, which sent him back to the lockers at the 90th minute.

MLS Matchday 4: Columbus Crew 3 – 0 New York Red Bulls

We were expecting the Columbus Crew to win, but they made this a statement, as they started early with a goal from Cucho Hernandez in the 13th minute.

They kept the pace going, keeping the ball for themselves and avoiding any danger, but they waited until the second half to finish their performance with two extra goals, as Jacen Russel-Rowe scored in the 56th minute, and Aidan Morris scored another 10 minutes later.

The NY Red Bulls were only able to shoot three times, and two of them were going for the net.  Sadly, it wasn’t enough for them to at least stop Columbus from keeping a clean sheet.

MLS Matchday 4: Houston Dynamo 1 – 0 Portland Timbers

When and Where?

Saturday, March 16, 8:30 pm at the Shell Energy Stadium

Moneyline odds:

Houston Dynamo 1.89

Portland Timbers 3.965

Draw Offs

Houston’s upset over Portland didn’t allow them to retain the lead on the scoreboard, but that had to be expected.  The Timbers had more shots on target, but they couldn’t score, and Houston Dynamo did manage to keep 58% possession of the ball, which opened the chances for Ibrahim Aliyu to score in the 43rd minute.

Keeping things tight for the rest of the match allowed the Houston team to win, but not without five yellow cards to be scattered between both teams.

MLS Matchday 4: Minnesota United 2 – 0 Los Angeles FC

When and Where?

Saturday, March 16, 8:30 pm at the Shell Energy Stadium

Moneyline odds:

Minnesota United 2.814

Los Angeles FC 2.36

Draw Offs

3.66

The clash between Minnesota United and LAFC was quite surprising, as the hosts took an early lead with Robin Lod scoring in the 16th minute.  But even as LAFC took 51% possession, they were unable to even the score in the first half.

They did try to go all out in the second half, but Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored the second for Minnesota in the 88th minute, sealing the result in favor of the home team.
