Team Overview

The Seattle Seahawks enter 2026 as the defending champions after beating New England 29-13 in Super Bowl LX. Seattle went 14-3 and beat the Rams in a close NFC Championship Game. Then it dismantled the Patriots, forcing eight punts on New England’s first nine possessions. Mike Macdonald is entering his third season. He has already delivered the second title in franchise history.

John Schneider’s response was to keep the band together. He did not chase headlines the way Los Angeles did with Myles Garrett. Seattle lost only five contributors from a 17-win season and re-signed every other free agent, with no cap casualties. Still, some departures matter. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak left to become head coach of the Raiders. Running back Kenneth Walker III signed with Kansas City. Cornerback Riq Woolen, safety Coby Bryant and edge rusher Boye Mafe also moved on. Sam Darnold returns at quarterback, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba as his top target and Cooper Kupp still on the roster. Meanwhile, HBO’s Hard Knocks has been following the whole thing.

Offensive Line Analysis

Continuity is the entire story. Seattle returns all five starters. Charles Cross and Grey Zabel man the left side, and Jalen Sundell plays center. Anthony Bradford and Abraham Lucas hold down the right side. In fact, the Seahawks brought back all eleven linemen who played a snap last season. Pro Football Focus graded this group 15th in the league in 2025, a jump from 31st the year before. John Benton also returns for a second season coaching them. Bradford is playing a contract year at right guard. That is the one spot where the coaching staff has invited competition. The early results are solid, including 162 rushing yards in Arizona. So this unit is no longer the weakness it was two years ago.

Defensive Line Analysis

This is the best front in the division, and arguably in football. Leonard Williams was a second-team All-Pro at defensive tackle last season. DeMarcus Lawrence also made the Pro Bowl on the edge, and both are back. Seattle allowed the fewest points in the NFL at 17.1 per game and ranked first against the run. The Seahawks lost Mafe from the rotation, so they signed Dante Fowler Jr. Fowler cited conversations with Aden Durde and Lawrence as the reason he came. This group’s interior advantage is exactly what buried New England in February. In that game, Seattle sacked Drake Maye six times and intercepted him twice. The 2026 version has picked up where it left off, allowing just 17 points in two games.

2026 NFL Season

Week 1

Patriots at Seattle Seahawks | Wednesday, September 9 | 8:20 PM ET | Lumen Field, Seattle, WA

Seattle opens the entire NFL season at home in a rematch of Super Bowl LX. The Seahawks opened at -3.5 with a moneyline of -192 against New England’s +160 and a total of 44.5. That is the same spread as the Super Bowl itself, even though Seattle now holds home field. In other words, the market has quietly moved toward the Patriots over the summer.

New England has reason for that. The Patriots traded for A.J. Brown this offseason to give Maye a genuine number one receiver. Their line, however, spent the postseason as the weak point Seattle exploited. What changes for Seattle is the running game. Walker carried the load against New England in February, and he is now in Kansas City. That leaves a thin backfield, with Zach Charbonnet’s Week 1 status unresolved. So Darnold may have to win this one throwing.

Week 1 Recap

Seattle opened its title defense with a 13-10 win over the New England Patriots at Lumen Field. The game was a rare Wednesday opener and a rematch of Super Bowl LX. New England shut out the Seahawks for three quarters, and they trailed 10-0 entering the fourth. They won it on a 45-yard touchdown from Drew Lock to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. A 26-yard Jason Myers field goal with 5:53 to play then provided the winning points.

Lock was in the game because Sam Darnold left with a glue injury. Tests ruled out a fracture, but Darnold will miss Week 2. Between them, the quarterbacks went 17 of 24 for 200 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. That added up to a 109.7 rating on just 48 offensive plays. Seattle ran the ball 22 times for 97 yards without a rushing score. The offense also held the ball for under 26 minutes.

Mike Macdonald’s defense won this game outright. Drake Maye threw three interceptions and finished with a 54.9 rating. Seattle also added three sacks, nine tackles for loss and six passes defended while blitzing 15 times. In fact, New England never ran a play inside the red zone all night. The one blemish was discipline, with ten penalties for 98 yards. Next, Seattle travels to Arizona with Lock expected to start.

Week 2

Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals | Sunday, September 20 | 4:25 PM ET | State Farm Stadium, Glendale, AZ

Seattle opens as a road favorite at -230 on the moneyline. The Arizona Cardinals sit at +190, with the spread at 4.5 points and the total at 41.5. That total is among the lowest on the board. After all, the defending champions scored 13 points last week, and their opponent just held Justin Herbert to 14.

Laying 4.5 points on the road with a backup quarterback is the part worth scrutinizing. Drew Lock closed out the opener well. However, he inherits an offense that managed 285 yards on 48 plays. It also has no lead running back after Kenneth Walker III signed with Kansas City. Arizona, meanwhile, is 1-0 after winning outright as an 11.5-point underdog in Los Angeles. The Cardinals held the ball for 37 minutes and committed zero turnovers. The Seahawks defense travels well enough to cover this on its own. Still, a division road game against a tempo-controlling team is a risky spot for an unsettled offense.

Week 2 Recap

Seahawks beat the Arizona Cardinals 31-7 in Glendale. Drew Lock made his first start since the final week of the 2024 season, and he was excellent. Lock completed 19 of 26 for 235 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, a 139.1 rating. All three scores went to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The first came on the Seahawks‘ second offensive play, an 82-yard catch-and-run against a busted coverage. Smith-Njigba finished with nine catches for 155 yards.

The score stood at 7-7 in the second quarter before Seattle took over. From there, the Seahawks scored the final 24 points. They also held the ball for more than 36 minutes and ran 40 times for 162 yards. Emanuel Wilson led the way with 92 yards on 20 carries. Jadarian Price added 52 yards before leaving with a chest injury. That is a concern for a backfield that already lost Kenneth Walker III. Overall, the win extended Seattle’s streak to 12 straight, postseason included, the longest in franchise history. It was also Seattle’s 10th straight win over Arizona.

Mike Macdonald’s defense did the rest. Arizona finished with 151 total yards, and its longest completion went for nine yards. Julian Love also made a sliding interception in the third quarter. In total, the Seahawks have allowed 17 points in two games. Meanwhile, Sam Darnold is progressing from the glue injury he suffered in the opener. Macdonald said he has at least a chance to start in Washington.

Week 3

Seahawks at Washington Commanders | Sunday, September 27 | 1:00 PM ET | Northwest Stadium, Landover, MD

Seattle opens as a 4.5-point road favorite. DraftKings priced the Seahawks at -205 against the Washington Commanders at +170. The total sits at 41.5, tied for the lowest on the Week 3 board. Washington is 0-2 after losses to Philadelphia and Dallas.

That line may not fully reflect the news out of Dallas. Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow at the end of the first half on Sunday. It is the same elbow he dislocated against Seattle last November. As a result, Marcus Mariota will start in his place. Facing a backup with a defense that has allowed 17 points in two games makes this a favorable trip. The open question is Seattle’s own quarterback. Still, whether Darnold returns or Lock makes a second straight start, the offense runs through Smith-Njigba. A 1:00 PM ET kickoff on the East Coast is the one thing working against the Seahawks.

Seattle is the reigning champion, and the roster that won the title is almost entirely intact. The defense allowed the fewest points in football last season. The offensive line also returns all five starters. Meanwhile, Macdonald has treated camp like a team with something to prove rather than one coasting on a ring. The two real questions start with Brian Fleury, a first-time playcaller and Seattle’s fourth coordinator in four seasons. The other is a running back room that lost its lead back without a clear replacement. Repeating is rare, and the Chiefs are the only team to do it since the 2004 Patriots. This division also makes it harder. Even so, a 2-0 start with a backup quarterback says the Seahawks will be right there.
