Premier League Matchday 30 Roundup

Last Updated on April 1, 2024 2:32 pm by Erwin Noguera

The matchday 30 of the Premier League season ended with Arsenal and Manchester City’s tie, as the supposed “game of the round” was pretty disappointing.

The most interesting result came in the form of an incredible turnover that had Kalvin Phillips as a protagonist (again) for the bad. The English international doesn’t see the light, and his future is in the air with his torrid performances.

At the top of the table, Liverpool was able to retake the lead after finally being able to beat De Zerbi’s Brighton. Meanwhile, at the bottom, Nottingham Forest came out for the red zone again as Luton remained unable to win, even when they got in the score first again.

This clash was highly awaited by fans, as both teams have been going through a decent season. However, they both needed a little push to break into the top.

The thing here is that Edson Alvarez was not available on the field for West Ham, and that could’ve been a factor in what unfolded afterward. Both teams went back and forth during a contested match that ended up with seven goals in total.

The action began in the 6th minute when Alexander Isak hit the net and awarded the local team their first. But this match kept itself exciting, as in the 77th minute, Newcastle was down by a 1-3 score, and in the 90th minute, they had turned things around 4-3, netting the 3 points their way.

A seven-game stretch over 20 days kicked off against the Wolves, and the omens were not good.

Villa was winless in seven at home against their near-neighbors, while Emery had not beaten the Old Gold in six previous attempts. With no side taking more points against the top five sides, Wolves had the formula to extend those woes.

So, a 2-0 victory was a blessed relief for the Villans. It wasn’t particularly pretty, and not entirely comfortable, but the three points to signal the end of their mini wobble were deserved.

Now, we will have to see the future performances of Aston Villa, who will be trying to increase momentum.

Liverpool had a perfect chance to get to the top of the scoreboard as they were facing a Brighton team that was not at its best, while the other two heavy hitters in the season faced each other.

Things were expected to be flawless for the top team coming into the clash, but Brighton decided to waste no time and scored a 2nd-minute goal through Danny Welbeck, which came as a hit for a top team playing at home.

However, the hosts were not going to take it like that, and they decided to get into business, not only managing to even the score in the 27th minute but also taking over on the 65th to keep the board in their favor and score another 3 points to make themselves the leaders.

As Liverpool was taking the lead, Manchester City and Arsenal were going at each other to try and score themselves 3 points.

However, the clash between the top teams played out a 0-0 draw at the Etihad in a match that was pretty high on tension but also pretty short of clear-cut chances, which left Liverpool two points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The best chance of the game came in the first half when Nathan Ake shouldered a corner at Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya from close range. The Dutchman would go off with a calf problem not long after, but despite that further denting an injury-hit City backline, Arsenal failed to majorly trouble stand-in keeper Stefan Ortega.

It was a boring match with clean sheets on both sides, and the clear winner was Liverpool, who now stands as the leader with a 2-point margin.
