Team Overview

The New York Giants enter 2026 as the NFC East’s biggest wild card. The organization hired two-time Super Bowl-winning coach John Harbaugh, selected linebacker Arvell Reese fifth overall and offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa 10th overall, and is now betting heavily on the development of second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart. The Giants finished 2025 at 4-13, but the organization believes the roster has enough young talent to make a significant jump under Harbaugh. Dart showed flashes as a rookie, particularly as a runner, and Harbaugh’s offense is expected to emphasize the ground game and quarterback mobility. The biggest offensive concern is the health of Malik Nabers, who is recovering from an ACL injury. Defensively, New York has an intriguing front led by Brian Burns, Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux, but the team traded Dexter Lawrence to Cincinnati and must replace one of the league’s best interior defensive linemen. The Giants have talent, but they also have the widest gap between their ceiling and floor in the division.

Offensive Line Analysis

The Giants invested heavily in their offensive line by selecting Francis Mauigoa with the No. 10 overall pick. The rookie is expected to begin his career at guard, immediately giving New York more physicality in the middle. The team’s new offensive philosophy under Harbaugh, Matt Nagy and Greg Roman is expected to lean heavily on the run game. That could be extremely helpful for Jaxson Dart because it reduces the number of situations where the second-year quarterback must win purely through dropback passing. The Giants also want to use Dart’s mobility through RPOs and quarterback-driven runs. The biggest question is whether the line can create enough consistent rushing production while also giving Dart time on passing downs. If the answer is yes, New York’s offense could surprise.

Defensive Line Analysis

The Giants’ defensive line is undergoing perhaps the most significant change of any position group in the division. New York traded Dexter Lawrence to Cincinnati for the No. 10 overall pick, creating a massive hole in the middle of the defense. The organization responded by bringing in veterans such as DJ Reader and Shelby Harris, while continuing to rely heavily on its elite edge talent. Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter give New York an extremely dangerous group outside the tackles, while Arvell Reese adds another explosive young defender to the front seven. The biggest question is whether the Giants can replace Lawrence’s ability to disrupt the interior. If they can generate pressure from the edge and get adequate play from the new interior rotation, the defense could become one of the team’s biggest strengths.

2026 NFL Season

Week 1

Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants | Sunday, September 13 | 8:20 PM ET | MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

The Giants get one of the biggest possible stages to begin the Harbaugh era: Sunday Night Football against Dallas.

The current market has Dallas around -2.5, with the Cowboys approximately -130 on the moneyline, New York around +110, and the total around 48.5.

The Giants have legitimate upset potential. Jaxson Dart is entering Year 2, Harbaugh’s offense should emphasize the run, and the Giants have a potentially elite pass rush. If Malik Nabers is available and close to his pre-injury form, New York’s offensive ceiling rises significantly.

But Dallas has a much more established passing offense and has invested heavily in fixing the exact weakness that hurt them last season.

Prediction: Cowboys ML (-130), Giants +2.5. Projected score: Dallas 27, New York 24.

Best betting angle: Giants +2.5 rather than Giants ML.

Odds to Win Division and Super Bowl

Odds to Win NFC East: +600

Odds to Win Super Bowl: +7000

Win Total: 7.5 — Over -110 / Under -110

Predictions

Overall Record: The Giants project around 7-10, with 8-9 as the optimistic outcome.

Playoff Chances: Long shot. DraftKings had New York around +255 to make the playoffs in July.

Super Bowl Chances: Extremely long shot, but the roster has more upside than the 4-13 record suggests.

The Giants are probably the most fascinating team in the division from a betting perspective because John Harbaugh is an enormous coaching upgrade and Jaxson Dart could make a significant second-year jump. CBS Sports specifically points to the possibility of a 2025 Patriots-style turnaround if Dart develops quickly under Harbaugh.

The problem is that the Giants have a brutal opening: Dallas, the Rams and then Tennessee/Arizona before Washington. They also have to replace Dexter Lawrence.

Betting Verdict: Giants +2.5 Week 1; Over 7.5 becomes interesting if Malik Nabers is confirmed healthy.
